KIEV, Ukraine -

Pakistan has become the first member country of INTERPOL to waive visa entry requirements for bearers of the new INTERPOL e-passport.

The world’s leading international police agency issued its first-ever passports to the INTERPOL officials participating in its General Assembly in Singapore this week with 800 global law enforcement officials in attendance.

The INTERPOL e-passport will ensure the fastest response by INTERPOL following terrorist incidents, and in reaction to requests for assistance with transnational investigations.

Alexander Vassiliev, Chairman of the Board of the EDAPS Consortium, the global firm that designed and developed the highly secure INTERPOL e-passport, congratulated Pakistan Minister of Interior A. Rehman Malik on his personal leadership in facilitating that nation’s lead through swift acceptance of the INTERPOL e-passports and providing visa waivers.

“Minister Malik has led the way to make sure that the police and citizens of Pakistan receive expert INTERPOL assistance in the shortest amount of time,” Vassiliev said.

INTERPOL president Khoo Boon Hui has stated that “the document will significantly support the organization’s work and assist them in remaining at the forefront of all activity which enhances member-country security and safety.”

Secretary General Ronald K. Noble has urged all 188 member countries “to seek the necessary governmental recognition and approval so that INTERPOL may respond to any terrorist act, serious crime or natural disaster as fast as possible.”

In addition to congratulating Pakistan and Minister Malik for expediting visa waiver status to holders of INTERPOL passports, EDAPS Chairman Vassiliev also thanked the international suppliers that supported the e-passport development project.
