Minimally-Invasive Cardiac Output Device Segment Sees Double-Digit Growth in Europe
VANCOUVER, February 15, 2011 - According to a new report by iData Research (www.idataresearch.net
), the leading global authority in medical device and pharmaceutical market
research, the European patient monitoring market has recovered from the
economic recession and is expected to grow to over EUR1.2 billion by 2017,
with Germany being the largest market. Multi-parameter vital-sign devices
represented the majority of the patient monitoring market in 2010, while
cardiac output devices and consumables was the fastest-growing segment,
increasing at over 7%. Home telehealth was the second fastest-growing
segment; however growth is forecasted to accelerate to double-digit rates
over the forecast period as healthcare providers recognize the benefits of
monitoring patients outside the clinical setting.
Telehealth monitoring for cardiac implantable electronic devices (CIEDs)
represented nearly 82% of the total European telehealth monitoring market in
2010, however telehealth monitoring for chronic-disease management is
becoming increasingly important, as the European population ages.
"Growth in the European telehealth market is expected to accelerate
through 2017, particularly in the U.K., where pilot programs are most
developed," says Dr. Kamran Zamanian, CEO of iData. "However, the biggest
obstacle to adoption currently is a lack of normalized reimbursement policies
in most countries."
Furthermore, the report states that by 2017 the total cardiac output
monitoring market is expected to reach a value of over EUR123 million.
"By 2017, non-invasive and minimally-invasive technologies are expected
to represent nearly three-quarters of the European cardiac output monitoring
market." Says Dr. Zamanian.
The report also states that while Edwards Lifesciences dominates the
invasive segment, up and coming players in the minimally and non-invasive
segments include Pulsion Medical, Cheetah Medical, Deltex Medical and LiDCO,
while Medtronic, Biotronik, Tunstall and Philips lead the European telehealth
market.
