Top 300 in Five Broad Subject Areas, and QS Top 500 Universities, Released Today on https://www.topuniversities.com
LONDON, September 15, 2010 -
- Cambridge the only university to rank in the top 4 in all 5 subject areas - Oxford deemed best in the world for arts & humanities; Cambridge tops the table for natural sciences - 50 countries represented in overall Top 500; 51 UK universities in QS Top 500
QS World University Rankings(R) subject tables are based on an academic
survey completed by 15,050 academics, including 700 university leaders, who
were asked to identify the universities producing the best research in their
own field of knowledge and within their region of expertise. The overall
rankings also take into account employer reputation, research strength and
teaching and international commitment.
Paul Thurman, a leading statistician and professor at Columbia University
says: "The benefit of the academic peer review is it allows comparison of
universities at a multi-disciplinary level or by single disciplines, based on
the expertise identified by the respondent. The QS rankings methodology is
conservative and robust… and the overall results are certainly
statistically valid."
