MELBOURNE, Australia, November 8, 2011 -
RMIT English Worldwide (REW) has been recognised by a former Saudi Arabian student for the language training company’s extensive support of students from the region.
Othman Algwairi, who recently completed his Masters in Laboratory Medicine at RMIT University, presented the REW Melbourne Language Centre with a traditional Saudi Arabian gift in appreciation of its efforts over the years.
Mr Algwairi is planning to continue his studies in Melbourne and will embark on his PhD in Laboratory Medicine at RMIT in 2012. Sponsored by the Saudi Arabian government, he began at REW in 2008 and studied English for 60 weeks before moving on to RMIT.
Mr Algwairi will be working with REW again in 2012 and beyond, as they re-establish their Saudi Committee, which began in 2008. The working group involves students and members of the REW Student Services Team, who focus on providing a support network for Saudi Arabian students to offer advice, mentoring and assist with transitioning into life in Australia.
Mr Algwairi was President of this committee during his year at REW and also President of the Saudi Association of Melbourne in 2010.
“REW taught me more than just English, they helped me and others to solve problems every day,” he said.
“I would like to assist REW in doing this for other Saudi students so they can share the same great experience that I did.”
Accepting the gift from Mr Algwairi, Ann Wright, Director of the Melbourne Language Centre, said: “This is a lovely gesture and we are pleased to have assisted you with your study and career goals.”
Mr Algwairi plans to return to Saudi Arabia after his PhD to address the widespread health issues associated with diabetes. This is an opportunity to put his studies to good use and address the epidemic in the near future.
REW is a division of RMIT Training, a company associated with RMIT University. REW works closely with global industry, international universities and institutions and foreign government organisations to provide a range of tailored English programs and assessment.
One of the most successful of these has been Aviation English, which is delivered in Europe, the Middle East, Asia and Russia.
