UK Election Debate: Spending Cuts and Immigration Issues Ducked
By Economist Intelligence Unit, PRNEThursday, April 15, 2010
LONDON, April 16, 2010 - Following Thursday's leadership debate, the real scale of cuts needed to
tackle the UK's budget deficit and the failure to support immigration are put
under the spotlight by Economist Intelligence Unit experts Charles Jenkins
and Neil Prothero.
Jenkins says that Liberal Democrat Leader Nick Clegg's claim to be the
most honest on public spending bears more scrutiny. Plus, the tough language
on immigration doesn't credit those who came to work in the UK in recent
years with their role in the economic boom that ended with the credit crunch.
