BEIJING, September 21, 2011 -

Vision Objects, worldwide leading provider of digital writing solutions, is proud to announce that it has been awarded first place for the online isolated character recognition and the online handwritten recognition in the Chinese handwriting recognition competition. This year’s competition was organized with the ICDAR 2011 in Beijing, China.

All competing systems were tested against an un-open dataset of free handwriting samples that was made available by the Institute of Automation of Chinese Academy of Science (CASIA). Vision Objects scored the highest accuracy results achieving 95.77% in the online character recognition and 94.33% in the online text recognition categories.

“We are extremely pleased to be awarded this prize for Chinese handwriting recognition, coming after the ones of Tamil and Arabic which demonstrates once more that Vision Objects provides equally very good results for handwriting recognition across all languages,” said Jean-Marc Aïchoun, VP of Sales and Marketing, Vision Objects. “We believe that this award will help contribute to grow our presence in China and our leadership as the international expert in handwriting recognition.”

ICDAR 2011 is organized by the Center for Intelligent Image and Document Information Processing (CIDIP) of Tsinghua University, the Institute of Automation of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CASIA) and the Chinese Association of Automation (CAA). The CIDIP group has long devoted commitment to research and development in the fields of document analysis, face recognition and biometric technology. CASIA is one of the earliest institutions in China involving pattern recognition and document analysis research.
