LONDON, March 20, 2011 - According to a survey* by Europe's leading website for bringing together
customers and tradesmen www.myhammer.co.uk , Britain's women are
calling on their partners to put the toolbox back where they found it. 61% of
the women polled by MyHammer think they could be better off calling in a
professional, rather than letting their partner loose on DIY jobs around the

It isn't just the bigger jobs we need worry about either; 58% of the
women surveyed said they could only rely on their partner for the very basic
DIY tasks. Top of the list of the jobs women felt their partners could not
complete to a good standard were fitting a kitchen (57%) tiling a bathroom
(47%), laying flooring (43%) and perhaps most worryingly, replacing a plug
socket (34%) and wallpapering (35%).

Nearly half of the women questioned dread their partner doing any DIY and
yet 59% of improvements in the home are attempted by men. It seems the man of
the house is also unlikely to warn you of impending disaster; 24% of partners
would never admit to their lack of DIY skills and press on regardless.

60% of UK homeowners plan to make home improvements this year. This is
good news for MyHammer's 290,000 tradesmen, according to Gerrit Mueller, COO
and General Manager International, "The drop in the housing market means that
homeowners will be turning again to home improvements rather than moving
house. However increased legislation means that you often need to use a
qualified tradesperson. Equally if you are not terribly skilled it can be
more cost effective to pay for work to be done to be sure of a professional
job and save money in the long run rather than righting DIY disasters.
Tradesmen at MyHammer are reviewed by other customers to give you extra
confidence when picking the winning bid."

MyHammer allows you to get quotes for jobs in your home from qualified
tradesmen. Review the work on the site once complete and make it easier for
others to identify honest and competent builders, plumbers, electricians and
other tradesmen through your recommendations.

Save yourself a DIY disaster and get the experts in to help.
