3D TV User Interface to Any STB or CI+ Device to be Unveiled at ActiveVideo Networks Exhibit at IBC

HILVERSUM, Netherlands and SAN JOSE, California, September 2, 2010 - A 3D TV User Interface that can be delivered to any existing set-top box,
CI+ television or Web-connected device will be among the cloud-based
innovations that will be demonstrated by ActiveVideo Networks at IBC
September 9-14.
At its stand (#3.B20) in the RAI Amsterdam, ActiveVideo will show how the
network processing and ultra-efficient streaming and scaling capabilities of
its CloudTV(TM) platform can create 3D navigational and menuing environments
that surpass the 2D limitations of CI+ modules and existing set-top boxes.
Using solutions that currently are deployed in approximately 5 million
homes, ActiveVideo will demonstrate how cloud-based interactivity can drive
the deployment of differentiating services that can attract and retain
customers, and can generate new subscriber and advertiser revenues, without
incurring the cost and service disruption of customer equipment and network
upgrades.
In addition to the 3D demonstration, the ActiveVideo exhibition will show
how cable and IPTV providers can:
- Use communication from customers' existing iPhones, other smartphones and Web-connected devices to the CloudTV platform to enable true, real-time interactive and on-demand services over legacy one-way cable plant; - Utilize ActiveVideo's iPhone Remote Control App to enable gesture-based interactivity, improved keyboarding and navigation, significantly improved search and discovery, and the ability to upload photos and intuitively control displays on the TV; and - Provide a uniform experience across any combination of one-way and two-way plant and STBs, CI+ televisions and Web-connected devices.
"As 3D continues to gain mass appeal, the optimal environment will
include not just content, but enhanced navigation as well," said Ronald
Brockmann, managing director, Europe for ActiveVideo Networks. "Our IBC
demonstration is designed to show how a 3D user interface that is rendered in
the network 'cloud' can be streamed to any connected device - including CI+
TVs - enabling subscribers to enjoy a seamless 3D experience."
The ActiveVideo CloudTV platform utilizes existing VOD infrastructures or
broadband connections to increase subscriber value for cable system operators
and programmers. The platform uses existing Web content development
technologies to enable operators, traditional and Web programmers and
advertisers to write rich interactive content once that can be delivered
uniformly to any digital set-top box, CI+ enabled television or
broadband-connected CE device.
