A ceremony to reward excellence in government performance
brought an end to the second round of the Abu Dhabi Award for Excellence in
Government Performance at the Emirates Palace Hotel today. The ceremony was
honored by the attendance of many VIPs, as well as members of the Executive
Council. They were joined by Senior Government Sector officials and
representatives from the Government Departments.

In his address to those gathered for the ceremony, H.E. Mr
Mohamed Ahmed Al Bawardi, the General Secretary of the Executive Council, and
the Awards Chief, said:

“Since its inception under the direction of H.H. Sheikh
Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, The Abu Dhabi Award for Excellence in Government
Performance is an integral part of the future strategies for all Government
Departments in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. In order to achieve the highest
levels of excellence and breakthrough in terms of quality and excellence in
performance we must set high expectations and use the tools of the business
field. This is the ideal path to follow in order to promote the performance
of the government in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi to the international levels of
the developed countries and societies.”

He added that the assessment process of the Abu Dhabi Award
for Excellence in Government Performance is established on the pattern of
international criteria. These same criteria are being used as a basis for
similar projects focused on the organization of the European Union. The
assessment is based upon employee performance, the scope of real change and
how to manage it. The combination of these factors leads to development,
enhancement and excellence.

H.E. Al Bawardi emphasized that the Abu Dhabi Award for
Excellence in Government Performance promotes a fair and challenging field in
all the prize categories, it is not about the winning or the losing for any
department. Simply the acceptance of the challenge signals the willingness to
aim for change.

H.E. Al Bawardi thanked H.H. Sheikh Hamad bin Zayed Al Nahyan,
Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Crown Prince’s Court and member of the Abu Dhabi
Executive Council, and all of those who attended the ceremony. He also
extended his thanks and acknowledged the leaders and employees of all the
Government Departments and Directorates in the Emirate. He extended a special
thanks to the internal organizers of the Award program for their huge efforts
in facilitating the successful second round, and thanked everyone who shares
