LOS ANGELES - Brian Evans, the crooner, is preparing to perform in Russia, as soon as the new CD is released in 2009. Likened to Frank Sinatra, Evans has been performing in the United States as the opening act for such American talent as Jay Leno, Joan Rivers, Social Distortion, and Dionne Warwick.
But his turn is finally coming.
His debut album will feature a duet with Kelly Osbourne, daughter of rock legend Ozzy Osbourne, and of the 14 songs to be featured on the CD, Evans wrote 8 of them. One song was written by Ahmet Zappa, son of rock legend Frank Zappa.
“I have always loved this genre of music,” says Evans. “It tells a story, and unless you’ve lived these songs, you don’t have a right to sing them,” he says.
Originally an actor on such American television shows such as “Full House,” Evans was born in Boston, Massachusetts and now calls Las Vegas home. The new CD will be recorded at Capitol Records, and will be produced by Grammy nominated producer Chris Walden.
“I don’t intend on rehashing the Sinatra material. No one will ever sing Frank Sinatra songs better than Frank Sinatra,” says Evans. “I intend on writing new material in the same style, so that the genre gets a breath of fresh air.”
Evans, who met Frank Sinatra as a boy, wants to continue the genre without using the Sinatra material.
“I think people want to hear something new, but with respect for the style.”
The new CD will feature a full big band. Previous recordings are available at iTunes.
Evans intends to travel to Russia this summer to appear on various television programs to promote the new CD. He has performed corporate and special events in Russia, but this will be his first foray into the general public in Russia.
