Bernard Nigro Returns to Fried Frank as an Antitrust Partner in the Washington, DC Office

Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson LLP announced today that Bernard “Barry” Nigro will return to the Firm as a partner in the Antitrust Department resident in Washington, DC. Mr. Nigro was previously a partner at Fried Frank from 1999 to 2003. From 2003 to 2005, Mr. Nigro served as the Deputy Director for the Federal Trade Commission’s Bureau of Competition, where he supervised merger and non-merger enforcement divisions and developed agency policies related to compliance, merger and non-merger matters, and pre-merger notification. During his tenure at the Federal Trade Commission, Mr. Nigro oversaw numerous merger investigations and litigations across a broad range of industries, including pharmaceuticals, defense, energy, music, tobacco, consumer products, and aerospace. Immediately prior to rejoining Fried Frank, Mr. Nigro was an antitrust partner at Willkie Farr & Gallagher LLP in their Washington, DC office.

Mr. Nigro’s practice focuses on civil and criminal matters under federal and state antitrust laws and he frequently appears before the Federal Trade Commission, the Antitrust Division of the Department of Justice and state attorney general offices. As part of Fried Frank’s Antitrust Department, Mr. Nigro will represent major US and international corporations on antitrust matters in connection with mergers and acquisitions, internal investigations, litigations, and counseling.

Mr. Nigro currently serves as an officer on the Council of the ABA’s Section of Antitrust Law and previously served as the Chair of the organization’s Communications Industry and Committee Operations Committees. He was the Co-Editor-in-Chief of the Telecom Antitrust Handbook and is a member of the Board of Editors of Antitrust Report.

He received his Juris Doctorate from George Washington University Law School and his Bachelor of Arts from Georgetown University. Additionally, he served as a clerk for the Honorable Charles R. Richey on the United States District Court for the District of Columbia.
