JERSEY CITY, New Jersey, September 26, 2011 -
- Team members to run 100km in one of the largest fundraising sporting events in Hong Kong
Oxfam Trailwalker is one of the world’s toughest team challenges and one of the most rewarding. Teams of four have to walk - or run - the 100 kilometer course in a limited time. But it’s not just a physical challenge; participants are also raising money to help overcome poverty and injustice around the world.

A four person team from Datapipe Hong Kong, led by Turbo Wong, will participate in the annual race through Hong Kong’s MacLehose Trail on November 18-20th. The team will work together to overcome challenges as they work to complete the race in less than 48 hours. The team’s employer, Datapipe, a leading provider of managed services and data center infrastructure, will sponsor them as they strive to meet their goal of raising HK$70,000 (about $8,972 US).
“At Datapipe we encourage our team members to give back to their communities, and we support numerous local, national and global charities and organizations,” said Robb Allen CEO for Datapipe. ”Our team from Hong Kong is committed both physically and financially to this cause. We’re excited to sponsor and support the team and will be cheering for them in November.”
The Datapipe team has been practicing since March and they hope to complete the race in 36 hours. The team members, Turbo Wong, Leo Lee, Michael Leung and Philip Choi, none of whom have ever participated in the race before, will be competing against approximately 1,000 other teams.

To date, over 32,000 teams (128,000 individuals) have collectively walked over 11.5 million kilometers (the same distance as walking around the world 287 times), becoming great ambassadors for Oxfam’s work and raising over $53 million.
Oxfam is an independent development and relief agency based in Hong Kong. Since 1986, more than 69,000 participants have raised over HK$340 million to support Oxfam’s various poverty alleviation and emergency relief projects in Africa and Asia, including Hong Kong and mainland China. Oxfam Trailwalker originated in Hong Kong and is now a major international fundraising event held in 13 locations: Australia (Sydney and Melbourne), Belgium, Canada, England (South Downs and Yorkshire Dales), France, Germany, Hong Kong, Ireland, Japan, New Zealand and The Netherlands. Spain and Brisbane (Australia) will host the event in 2011, and Bangalore (India) in 2012.
