CAESAREA, Israel, October 18, 2011 -

Emefcy Ltd., a global leader in the development of energy efficient products for wastewater treatment, today announced it was awarded the Early Stage Company of the Year prestigious award and listed in the significant Global Cleantech 100, produced by The Cleantech Group, and with the UK’s Guardian News and Media.

Emefcy revolutionizes the economics of wastewater treatment by generating power instead of consuming power, utilizing electrogenic bacteria to produce electricity from wastewater while treating the wastewater.

With its EBR (Electrogenic Bio-Reactor) and SABRE (Spiral Aerobic Bio-Reactor) products, Emefcy generates electricity by harvests renewable energy directly from the wastewater and feeds it to the grid while treating both municipal and industrial wastewater.

The Early Stage Company of the Year Award is presented to the highest-ranked company on the list which is in pre-revenue phase.

The Global Cleantech 100 list is unique in the sector because it highlights the promise of private clean technology companies from all around the world, focusing on those companies which are most likely to make the most significant market impact over the next 5-10 years.

“Being awarded the Early Stage Company of the Year Award is a vote of confidence in Emefcy’s vision of changing the economics of wastewater treatment” said Eytan Levy Emefcy’s co-founder and CEO and added, “We are also excited by the recognition Emefcy has gained among corporate community and regulators to be named  as one of the Global Cleantech 100.”

”There are many promising cleantech companies coming out of Israel, but Emefcy is a stand-out in the eyes of the international cleantech community,” Richard Youngman, MD Europe and Asia of the Cleantech Group commented. “To achieve the rating it did within the Global Cleantech 100, and the positive praise from both investment and industry players within our expert panel, as a pre-revenue company, was impressive. A worthy winner of the Early Stage Company of the Year award.”

4,274 companies were nominated this year from more than 45 countries. The companies were weighted and scored to create a short list of 213 companies presented to the expert panel for final input. The end result was 100 companies from 16 countries.

The 70-strong expert panel is drawn from well-respected organisations in cleantech innovation from around the world, including leading investors in global cleantech  and from a wide variety of corporations across many different industries, such as ABB, BASF, BP, Coca-Cola Company, DuPont, GE, General Motors, Procter and Gamble, and Vestas.

The complete list of 100 companies was revealed today at the Global Cleantech 100 Summit & Gala in Washington, D.C.
