DeLape said “optimism for the future of the economy” was a viewpoint shared among participants of the distinguished forum. DeLape joined Vincent Bastien, former CEO of Louis Vuitton; John Dane, III, CEO of Trinity Yachts; and David Michaels, Creative Director of Bokks in a panel discussion led by Robert L. Forbes, President, called “Trouble in Luxury: The Rise of Inconspicuous Consumption.”
As Forbes’ honored guest, DeLape — whose company is developing a highly acclaimed “eco-luxe” resort called, “Emerald Monkey,” in Bocas del Toro, Panama — said the panelists agreed that consumer spending will soon rise and a turnaround is inevitable. Driving the conference was the consensus of many participants that during tough economic times, invention and productivity are still booming around the globe. According to Forbes, “By harnessing new technologies, new energy sources, and new markets, companies can grow and change the world.” DeLape agreed, “One of the most innovative ideas to come out of the discussion was that luxury is viewed as an experience and not singled as a product.”
Delape’s development, Emerald Monkey Eco-Luxe Resort & Residences, was an ideal illustration and model for conference attendees seeking to broaden their investments while enjoying the luxury experience. Billed as a “carbon neutral footprint” resort complete with five-star amenities, owners along with the developers are able to become a part of the company’s dedication to the needs of the country.
A portion of the proceeds from sales will be donated to UNICEF, providing immunizations for 16,500 children in the Bocas del Toro archipelago of Panama. Additional philanthropic efforts include drilling water wells for local villages and providing education to indigenous Indians who will be better able to plant and grow produce for personal use as well as commercial crops.
Villas start in the mid US$500s to more than US$2.5 million, fractional sales available, and the resort is scheduled to open in the fourth quarter of 2010. For additional information regarding Emerald Monkey Eco-Luxe Resorts & Residences, visit us at www.emeraldmonkey.com.
