The manufacture of sterilizers for the Life Science industry are already
based in Getinge, while production equipment for pharmaceutical water and
other clean water products has been produced in Denmark.

"By bringing all operations - product development, purchasing, quality,
production and documentation - together in one place, we create a cohesive
and more logical unit, which, in a more efficient manner, meets our
customers' stringent demands on hygiene, safety and documentation," says
Peter Ljungkvist, Managing Director at Getinge Water Systems A/S in Denmark.

Safety, safety, safety

In recent months, Getinge has built up an entirely new production
facility for the manufacturing of our various clean water products.
Considering that these products are used, for instance, to produce clean
water for various types of injection fluids, it is no big surprise that the
concept of safety receives maximum attention.

All materials in the facility have been selected to guarantee top hygiene
levels; the air is inspected to make sure that both temperature and air
humidity are optimal, and all tools are specifically labeled. Precision is
reflected in every item and covers all stages in the operations: production,
construction, purchasing and documentation.

Testing together with our customers

Before the final products are delivered, full-scale testing is always
carried out on the equipment in cooperation with our customers, using
so-called Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT). The new production division
includes, therefore, special facilities for advanced testing.

Rigorously planned move

At the turn of the year, an extensive and rigorously planned relocation
of production and expertise from the plant in Denmark was undertaken. The
process, which has been performed without any interuption to ongoing business
has now been concluded.

First major customer order in October

"The next milestone is when we deliver our first real major order to the
Indonesian pharmaceutical manufacturer, Biofarma," says Peter Ljungkvist. The
delivery to Biofarma includes, for instance, pretreatment of water, water
stills, pure steam generators and distribution systems with tanks, where the
largest tank has a volume of 8,000 liters. Through its complexity/size, the
major benefits of merging all expertise and production under one roof are
illustrated.

"I am really looking forward to the opportunity to show our other
customers in the Life Science industry the new facility. They will from now
on encounter a Getinge that offers even greater opportunities that comply
with their needs and wishes," concludes Peter Ljungkvist.

ABOUT THE WATER AND STEAM SYSTEMS PRODUCTION AREA

The production area is situated under the same roof as the rest of the
Getinge Sterilization production, but is separated by a flexible wall.
The media pipe work and cabling are isolated from the production hall by a
white inner wall, through which the media like steam and feed water are
supplied through stainless steel utility panels.

The area will have limited access and only staff who have taken part in
the dedicated GMP Training Program will be allowed to perform assembly and
test on the units.

Among others, the following features are available:

    Number of test stands: 10
    Plant Steam Capacity: 10 000 kg/h at 8 bars
    Pure Steam Capacity: 8 000 kg/h at 3 bars
Feed Water Capacity: 10 m3/h (single pass RO)
    Orbital Welding Flexibility: From 0 1/2" to 0 6"
Climate Controlled Welding Area: 24 m2
Electrical Box Assembly Area: 20 m2
