ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates -

Harris Corporation (NYSE: HRS), an international communications and information technology company, is expanding its presence here with a new business development operation.

Under the leadership of Leon Shivamber, former corporate vice president of Supply Chain Management and Operations, Harris is launching its International Business Development team as part of the company’s Government Communications Systems Division.

For 25 years, Harris has served customers in the region who have come to rely on its mission-critical systems. The new operation will provide secure network solutions for security, energy and healthcare customers, among others.

“Customers will benefit from our increased presence and growing commitment here,” said Shivamber, now managing director of the new business development team.

Shivamber, a former McKinsey and Company consultant, has led the transformation of Harris Corporation’s supply chain capabilities. The work was recognized with a 2009 AMR Research Leadership Award for excellence in specific disciplines within the broader topic of supply chain leadership.

Joining the Abu Dhabi team are Harris engineers Virgil Russell and Deke Johnson. Russell, who began with the company in 2001, has supported business development in commercial, civil and national space areas. A 12-year Harris veteran, Johnson has more than 25 years of engineering and business development experience for government and international markets.

Dan Pearson, group president of Government Communications Systems, credits the company’s previous international efforts for laying the groundwork for this new business development. “It’s prepared the way for us as we now reach out to better serve even more customers in this part of the world.”
