HARROGATE, England, June 22, 2011 -
School inspectors have given
href="www.hlc.org.uk/">Harrogate Ladies’ College an
outstanding report.
Pupils’ overall achievement at the College is “excellent”.
Inspectors said that pupils of all abilities “achieve
consistently well” thanks to the “often excellent teaching” they
receive.
Across the board, HLC’s pupils impress. Inspectors said
they were “highly articulate”. ”Progress is exceptional” and
results are “excellent”. Last year, 81 per cent of all A
Level grades at the town’s distinguished independent school were at
either A*, A or B level.
The School’s pupils are equally impressive out of the classroom.
Pupils regularly gain national success in lacrosse,
athletics, netball and fell running. Musical standards are
very high.
The pastoral care that the School provides gained even higher
praise. The inspectors noted that “the pupils’ very high
levels of personal development are supported by outstanding
pastoral care and excellent arrangements to ensure their welfare,
health and safety”. The inspectors were very impressed too by
pupils’ social skills, their cultural awareness and the ease with
which they got on with one another.
The School’s boarding provision was viewed as another great
strength. It makes “a significant contribution to school life
and is a key element of the school’s ethos”.
Headmistress, Mrs Rhiannon Wilkinson, said that she was
absolutely delighted that the pupils and staff had gained the
recognition they deserved.
“What pleased me most,” said Mrs Wilkinson, “was not just our
academic success, but the fact that the inspectors were so
impressed by our pupils’ excellent personal development. I
believe that one of the most important aspects of education is that
schools should develop good people. It is tremendous that the
inspection acknowledged that this is such an important part of life
at Harrogate Ladies’ College.”
The inspection was carried out in May by the Independent
Schools’ Inspectorate (ISI). A full copy of the report can be
