LONDON, October 24, 2011 -

Shale Gas Environmental Summit
2nd and 3rd November 2011
Copthorne Tara Hotel, London

It has been a turbulent week for the Shale Gas industry globally, and environmental concerns still continue to lead many news headlines.

It was reported that by 2015 China plans on producing 6.5 billion cubic meters of Shale Gas, and by 2020 plans are set to increase this figure to 80 billion cubic meters. This month has also seen demonstrators take to the streets in Bulgaria’s capital, Sofia, to ban Shale Gas exploration in the country.

SMi Group’s inaugural Shale Gas Environmental Summit will investigate the environmental issues surrounding the extraction of shale gas and aims to establish a dialogue between the key stakeholders.  The conference will engage with legal professionals who will be addressing legislation governing Europe and from experienced technology companies on best practice, solutions and the hydro-social challenge.  Experts will also scrutinise the economic benefits of shale gas extraction and the trade off between energy security and damage to the environment.

The speaker line-up includes Philip Lowe, Director General for Energy at the European Commission who will explore Europe’s perspective on conventional and unconventional gas and the current stance of the European Union’s member states and Karim Essemiani, Business Development Manager at Veolia Water will examine the water management issues and solutions in shale gas E&P.

The Shale Gas Environmental Summit will take place on Wednesday 2nd and Thursday 3rd November at the Copthorne Tara Hotel in London.
