- Multi-protocol Label Switching (MPLS) Based Network Solution is Fast Emerging as a Viable Alternative for Enterprises Reveals Frost & Sullivan

Enterprises across have grown by leaps and bounds due to the global expansion; for these enterprises to run effectively connectivity and data management are a key priority. In short, Network management which will be secure, scalable and flexible enough to accommodate the vast expanding array of services has now become a priority for CIOs.

Keeping this in mind, Tata Communications & Cisco presented a 5-city Frost & Sullivan Executive MindXchange on Managed MPLS. TCL has partnered with CISCO to provide managed MPLS services in the global market and is leveraging the synergy of the partnership. At this series of summit conferences Frost & Sullivan launched a joint whitepaper titled “Managed MPLS a holistic approach to integrated IT”.

Mr. Girish Trivedi, Deputy Director, ICT Practice, Frost & Sullivan, South Asia & Middle East commented, “Our enterprise data study shows that MPLS is the fastest growing connectivity solution (CAGR of 44 percent) in India. The MindXchange summit was aimed at bringing forth the changing communications needs and how MPLS is emerging as a cost-effective, highly secure connectivity solution allowing enterprise to save costs and build reliability in their networks. One of the features of this summit was the development of the TCO framework created by Frost & Sullivan in association with Cisco and Tata Communications to measure some of the benefits achieved by moving to Managed MPLS services.”

Frost & Sullivan’s whitepaper on MPLS reveals that Multi-protocol Label Switching (MPLS) based network solution is fast emerging as a viable alternative for enterprises. The business value of MPLS network service like lower TCO, higher efficiency, better connectivity, value maximization and business continuity evinces the shift for the same instead of some other contemporary technologies.

In addition, the current service provider models enable the entire task of network and data management to be outsourced to a service provider who dispels the need for domain expertise in managing the network. Enterprises now can focus on their core competencies and delight their customers.

This whitepaper provides enterprises and their CIO’s the much needed perspective on managed MPLS services and helps understand the architecture, business value and benefits of the services. The emerging partnerships among value chain participants and their associated business models are helping enterprises to choose a solution, which fits their network usage. The strong market feelers further substantiate an enterprise’s migration for a MPLS network service, which has immense future potential.

The paper includes cases of successful implementation of Managed MPLS network solutions in diverse set of enterprises with varying sizes and requirement complexities. These projects, executed by Tata Communications Limited with network powered by CISCO equipment will be an excellent guide for enterprises who wish to upgrade their network services to the managed MPLS based services.

The paper ends with a six point formula for enterprises to assess their network requirements and arrive at an optimal network strategy. The formula includes the process of choosing a service provider, which is most critical in adopting a managed MPLS network solution for any enterprise.

Peter Juffernholz, head of MPLS Services at Tata Communications stated “The MPLS MindXchange summit across cities has been quite informative for IT professionals, struggling to cut costs and streamline their networks, as a key to business survival in the current economic scenario. Managed MPLS with seamless reach within India and globally, has been clearly identified as a mature, secure, and affordable alternative to enterprise-maintained infrastructures.”

“For service providers today, MPLS has become synonymous with high quality, security and next-generation VPN services at a considerably lower TCO (total cost of ownership). It allows managed service providers to build intelligent networks for enterprises and deliver a wide variety of advanced, value-added services over a single infrastructure. By integrating this network seamlessly with any other existing infrastructure, carriers can deliver tailored services as per the customer’s requirement,” said Rahul Ambegaoker, Client Director, Service Provider, CISCO India. “We are happy to be associated with Tata Communications and Frost & Sullivan for this joint initiative to drive awareness on the benefits of managed MPLS services, for operators as well as their enterprise customers,” he added.
