Nick Hewer and Margaret Mountford from The Apprentice, along with Davina McCall are all wearing their wellington boots this Friday to support the UK’s leading research charity Action Medical Research.

The charity’s new fundraising event ‘Wear Wellies to Work’ is encouraging the public to wear their wellies on Friday 18th September. The money raised will help fund vital research to improve the health of babies and children. Over 200 companies across the UK are joining in including Mama’s and Papas, Speedo and Renault Trucks.

Action Medical Research was founded nearly 60 years ago. They have been instrumental in some of the most significant breakthroughs in recent medical history including the UK polio and also ultrasound scanning in pregnancy. The inspiration for the day came from their official mascot Paddington Bear, who is rarely seen without his shiny red boots.

Davina McCall says: “I love wellies and this is a fun event that everyone, young, old, male, female can get involved in, you wear your wellies and raise money for a fantastic charity! What’s not to like. Also, I have three children who love splashing about in the rain and we all have wellies. So go on, wear you wellies on Wellies to Work day and do a good thing for charity.”

Nick Hewer and Margaret Mountford say: “Action Medical Research (AMR), through its ground-breaking research, brings real benefits to thousands of babies and children in the UK who are affected by disease and disability. AMR’s research helps find ways to reduce premature births, prevent life-threatening infections such as meningitis and pneumonia, and improve care for sick babies with rare and devastating conditions for which there are currently no cures.”

“We are supporting AMR’s new fundraising event ‘Wear Wellies to Work’ to help raise the vital funds needed in order to save more lives and prevent and treat disease.”
