LONDON - At a time when public interest in politics has never been so great, Durand Primary School, an outstanding state primary school in the London Borough of Lambeth, is drawing together MEP Candidates from all of the main political parties to take to the platform, to face public scrutiny and debate their policies and vision, ahead of the European Union Parliamentary Elections on June 4th 2009.
On Wednesday 20th May at 19:30pm, under the Chairmanship of veteran political journalist Robin Oakley OBE, European Political Editor of CNN and former Political Editor of the BBC, candidates Anne Fairweather (Labour Party Candidate), Jonathan Fryer (Liberal Democrat Candidate), Graham Postles (Conservative Candidate), Joseph Healy (Green Candidate) and a candidate from UKIP, will come together to face a tough Question and Answer session with the local audience.
Located on Hackford Road, Stockwell, only a stone’s throw from the Palaces of Westminster, local residents include many top civil servants, activists and politicians, so it should shape up to be a lively and energetic debate. Invitations to the open public event have been sent to over 5000 local homes and London universities and all of the children’s parents have been informed and encouraged to attend to have their say.
The European Elections Hustings Meeting is part of Durand Primary School’s ongoing efforts to share their achievements, encourage active citizenship and engage with democracy and the local community.
Durand, the largest primary school in Lambeth, are proud of the hard work that has gone on over the last twenty years to make this school what it is today, an ‘outstanding provider’ of primary education. Despite being located in an area with high levels of social deprivation, Durand offers the children of Lambeth the very best start in life and has broken down any artificial association between income and attainment.
