LONDON, December 9 - The 2009 Frost & Sullivan European Product Innovation of the Year Award
in the field of high performance polymers for electronics is presented to DSM
Engineering Plastics for Stanyl(R) ForTii(TM), the first new polymer that
meets the current market trends of miniaturisation and convergence of
electronic devices. The product offers multiple advantages including
dimensional stability, improved performance, environmental benefits, cost
benefits, strength and chemical resistance, and ease of processing.

DSM's Stanyl(R) ForTii(TM) effectively extends the performance range of
high performance polyamides; this increases the performance-to-cost ratio for
both electronics and automotive market needs.

"This Award recognises the product development behind Stanyl(R)
ForTii(TM) for both meeting current market demands and offering optimal
customer value," notes Frost & Sullivan Research Analyst Christina Priya
Dhanuja. "In cohering with the prominent trend of miniaturisation, higher
data rates, electronic device convergence and increased SMT reflow soldering
in the assembly, Stanyl(R) ForTii(TM) is positioned to also address the needs
of the automotive and the aerospace industry, both of which are keen on
reducing weight for better fuel efficiency and introducing an even higher
content of electronics."

Formerly known as PA4T, this new halogen-free polymer uniquely combines
the most desired features, namely high mechanical, electrical and high
temperature performance. The product's unique balance of properties such as
enhanced dimensional stability, compatibility with lead free reflow
soldering, high stiffness, and mechanical strength at high temperatures
effectively meets today's and tomorrow's market needs.

"Due to its broad processing window and high flow, the high performance
product is also characterised by outstanding processability," remarks
Dhanuja. "Notably, the product outperforms alternative high-temperature
resins including polyphthalamides (PPA's) and liquid crystal polymers
(LCPs)."

It is characterised by a high melting point of 325 degrees C, a high
glass transition temperature of 125 degrees C, a high heat deflection
temperature of 310 degrees C and comparative tracking index of 600 degrees C
(PLC level 0), fulfils the second best moisture sensitivity level (MSL JEDEC
2) while offering a flow higher than any halogen free polyphthalamide.

With the highest stiffness amongst all LCPs, PPAs and PPS in the
temperature range of reflow soldering, the product has a very low warpage
change before and after reflow, making it an ideal fit to solve issues
related to co-planarity. The product also boasts high mechanical toughness,
high weld line strength and an enhanced resistance to abrasion.

Meeting our customer and market demand Stanyl ForTii is RoHS compliant
and entirely halogen and red phosphorous free. It also has high cost benefits
with an increase in throughput and yield, and lower total cost than LCP.

"Importantly, Stanyl(R) ForTii(TM) can be moulded using conventional
equipment," comments Dhanuja. "With regard to applications, Stanyl(R)
ForTii(TM) is ideally suited for lead free Surface Mount Technology, high
temperature dip soldering, eutectic bonding, packages of light emitting
diodes and full electrical or hybrid automobiles."

The Frost & Sullivan Award for Product Innovation is presented each year
to the company that has demonstrated excellence in new products and
technologies within its industry. The recipient company has shown innovation
by launching a broad line of emerging products and technologies.

Frost & Sullivan Best Practices Awards recognise companies in a variety
of regional and global markets for demonstrating outstanding achievement and
superior performance in areas such as leadership, technological innovation,
customer service, and strategic product development. Industry analysts
compare market participants and measure performance through in-depth
interviews, analysis, and extensive secondary research in order to identify
best practices in the industry.
