LONDON - Chief economist of the European division of Bank of America will speak at the event which will take place on 19-20 May

The global economic crisis has been and still is at the forefront of debate and discussion across Europe and the whole globe. With the information overload that has been provided by the media, it can be challenging to decipher fact from myth or truth from exaggeration. The Economic Summit, one of this year’s highlights of Frost & Sullivan’s GIL 2009: Europe, provides the opportunity to learn more about and discuss today’s most important and pressing economic issues with knowledgeable professionals who are experts in their fields.

The Economic Summit begins at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, 20 May at Sofitel St. James in Central London, following keynote speaker, Frost & Sullivan Chairman David Frigstad. Schmieding will discuss the real impact of the global economic meltdown on European business, examining areas such as exports and investments, the European Stimulus, inflation and deflation, emerging markets in Europe, central banks, the monetary union and the hope of a rebound as soon as late 2009.

Following Schmieding’s presentation, Aroop Zutshi, President and Managing Partner with Frost & Sullivan, will lead a panel titled Emerging Growth Economies: China, Russia, Latin America, Africa, and Beyond that will examine trends in key emerging markets with an emphasis on understanding opportunities for firms to benefit from their economic turnaround. The panel will analyse all the key emerging markets in the world and consider both policies and prospects. Panellists include Manuel Balmaseda, Global Chief Economist, Cenex; David Cowan, Africa Economist, Citi; Vladimir Makatsaria, Area Director of Central/Eastern Europe (CEE) and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), Johnson and Johnson; and Professor Wolfgang Klenner, East Asia Studies Faculty, Ruhr University Bochum.
