Gigle Networks' Gigabit Intelligent Multi-PHY Switch with Mediaxtream(TM) Technology Enables MSI to Deliver HD Video Streaming over Home's Existing Power Lines
REDWOOD CITY, California and BARCELONA, Spain and EDINBURGH, Scotland, August 24, 2010 - Gigle Networks (giglenetworks.com ), a leading developer of
intelligent multi-PHY switching devices for both wired and wireless
entertainment-grade home networking, today announced that MSI has selected
the company's GGL541 system-on-chip gigabit intelligent multi-PHY switch for
its top-of-the-line home-networking solution. The GGL541 solution gives MSI's
ePower 1000 HD adapter the necessary bandwidth and reliability to deliver
whole-home HD video streaming while retaining full interoperability with
other IEEE 1901 and HomePlug(R) AV products.

The MSI ePower 1000 HD adapter operates on the HomePlug AV / IEEE 1901
standard and in addition uses Gigle Networks' Mediaxtream(TM) technology to
extend performance to gigabit data rates. It allows multiple Ethernet-enabled
computing or entertainment devices to share Internet connections, printers
and files, and to be used for on-line gaming and watching various forms of HD
content. All of these experiences would be available concurrently, from
different rooms in the home using a home's existing power lines.
"Our ePower 1000 HD adapter delivers the necessary low-latency bandwidth
for HD video streaming along with ultra-easy network setup and management,"
said Daniel Kiel, product manager, Communication and Peripherals with MSI.
"We have been a longtime supplier of power-line adapter solutions and are now
offering an entirely new class of entertainment-grade power-line performance
with Gigle Networks' multi-PHY switching technology, which significantly
extends the capabilities of HomePlug technology while still delivering full
interoperability and performance using standards-based IEEE 1901 and
HomePlug(R) AV products."
"MSI's ePower 1000 HD adapter is an exciting new product and we are
pleased to have played an important role in its development," said Rick
Walker, director, EU sales with Gigle Networks. "MSI has used the GGL541
chipset and our Mediaxtream technology to deliver Gigabit-class wireline
performance with minimum latency along with outstanding reliability and power
efficiency. MSI customers can simply plug the ePower 1000 HD adapter into any
electrical outlet and immediately create a best-in-class entertainment
networking connection capable of streaming HD video to any location in the
home."
Gigle Networks' fully integrated GGL541 solution incorporates a variety
of capabilities that are critical for optimizing network performance and
coverage in a home's challenging signal environments. The GGL541 chipset also
meets European 2011 Code of Conduct requirements for adapter Quality of
Service (QoS) that further optimizes video distribution throughout the home,
and includes Gigle Networks' Xtendnet(TM) intelligent switching technology,
which amplifies and re-times signals on the powerline for improved network
coverage.
For optimum power efficiency, the GGL541 solution includes a standby mode
that reduces power consumption to less than 1 watt when the device is not in
use. The GGL541 solution is compliant with the European framework directive
that sets eco design requirements for Energy using Products (EuP), including
all active and standby power requirements for adapters as defined by the EuP
Lot 6.
