DUBAI, UAE, October 23, 2011 -
His Highness Sheikh Maktoum Hasher Al Maktoum announces today that he has stepped down as Chairman of Al Nasr Sports Club.
He leaves the Club after a remarkable, record-breaking turnaround. During Sheikh Maktoum’s tenure as Chairman, Al Nasr Football Club jumped in the UAE Pro League from 10th position during the 2009/10 season to 3rd position in 2010/11 - the best position in the last 10 years. As a result, Al Nasr Football Club qualified for the Asian Football Confederation Champions League for the first time.
As Chairman of Al Nasr Sports Club, Sheikh Maktoum created a twenty-first century management structure, reduced the Club’s substantial debt to zero and left it in a healthy financial position, enabling the Board of Directors to choose a new path. He laid the foundation for the Club to gain ISO certification within the next six months.
Sheikh Maktoum also had a positive impact on the Club’s youth program by fostering the development of future talent. As Chairman of Al Nasr Sports Club, he was responsible for enhancing the Club’s Basketball program, contributing to the award-winning Volleyball team and hosting the Table Tennis World Team Cup in 2010. One of Sheikh Maktoum’s greatest achievements was building a world class infrastructure, including an Olympic-size indoor swimming pool.
His Highness Sheikh Maktoum Hasher Al Maktoum would like to thank His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, UAE Minister of Finance and Industry, for entrusting him with Al Nasr Sports Club’s turnaround. Sheikh Maktoum wishes the Board of Directors continued success and all the best for the future.
