A new treatment has brought relief to a UK patient who has endured tinnitus for 20 years.  Retired labourer, Peter Humphries reported a  first change in symptoms after just ten days, having received the new non-invasive therapy, Acoustic CR® Neuromodulation.  Available exclusively in the UK from the new Harley Street-based audiology centre, The Tinnitus Clinic, the therapy targets the auditory centre of the brain, naturally reducing tonal tinnitus and providing sustainable, long term relief.

Current neuroscientific evidence supports the evolving concept that tinnitus is caused by nerve cells firing in synchrony.  Acoustic CR® Neuromodulation transmits a unique and patient-specific set of tones to the patient’s auditory cortex, using a match-box sized acoustic device, with small medical earphones. This enables patients to ‘unlearn’ the tinnitus sound by disrupting the hyperactivity of nerve cells.  Developed in Germany, the therapy has been used to treat approximately 2,000 patients.  Clinical trial results demonstrate a significant reduction in tinnitus symptoms in 7 out of 10 patients, over an active treatment period of 9 months.

Like many tinnitus sufferers, Peter Humphries attributes his long-standing condition to a noisy working environment.  After starting Acoustic CR® Neuromodulation in June, he quickly noticed an improvement.

“I’m amazed to find that the treatment is working. I first noticed a change after about ten days. Since then, there’s been a noticeable change every couple of days as my tinnitus starts to disappear. It seems to be working for me, so I’d strongly recommend it,” commented Peter.

During treatment, patients wear the portable device for a total of between 4-6 hours per day and can continue with everyday activities during this time. Total treatment spans 6-12 months, during which time the tinnitus sound is regularly evaluated by the Audiologist and the acoustic signal fine-tuned in line with changing symptoms.

Acoustic CR® Neuromodulation treatment is available exclusively in the UK from The Tinnitus Clinic.  For more information, please contact Josephine Swinhoe at the practice on tel. +44(0)203-326-1777, email j.swinhoe@thetinnitusclinic.co.uk or visit www.thetinnitusclinic.co.uk
