DORKING, England - New fleet management software from Paragon Software Systems is enabling TD G to optimise vehicle routing and scheduling for its Pilkington Building Products Europe operation delivering glass to window and door manufacturers and building sites. The new centralised distribution planning system is in operation for five of the TDG / Pilkington sites and is already providing enhanced service levels, while reducing fleet running costs.

“Paragon has brought new levels of planning and routing accuracy to optimise our routes, fleet, and driver resources for the Pilkington contract. It allows us to meet delivery times with much greater consistency and has allowed us to reduce the size of the fleet,” says Nick Mancz, General Manager, TDG. “TDG’s investment in the Paragon system demonstrates our commitment to implementing new technology to help better serve our customers and their clients.”

Paragon is also the system of choice for other TDG operations, underpinning the organisation’s transport strategy by adopting new technology to simplify complex routing and scheduling processes.

“Paragon replaced a time consuming, complex and inflexible manual ‘bus route’ system. We now have the ability to quickly generate our plans centrally from our Oldbury site for the rest of the UK. The system optimises our routes, loads and vehicle selection based on access constraints, allowing us to make informed choice as to whether or not we use a rigid, articulated truck or van to make the delivery. Accuracy has replaced guesswork,” says Nick Mancz.

The new system also enables TDG to reduce its carbon footprint. “TDG actively pursues environmental initiatives to reduce the impact of the fleet. Through optimising our routes, schedules and loads, as well as vehicle usage, we are able to significantly reduce emissions and fuel costs,” concludes Nick Mancz.

TDG is one of Europe’s leading supply chain management companies. The organisation employs around 6,500 people across over 130 sites in 8 countries. It provides value-added supply chain management services, including freight forwarding, to a wide range of markets, including chemicals, consumer, construction, retail and paper and packaging.

Pilkington Building Products Europe offers insulating glazing units in toughened, laminated and fire-resistant glasses as well as a wide range of glass and glass related products to the trade. This business also includes 12 glazing facilities and Pilkington Architectural, the Group’s manufacturer of the patented Pilkington Planar glazing system.
