NEW DELHI, India, December 6, 2011 -

India has a population of 1.1 billion people, with 40% living in urbanised areas of major cities. 30% of this urban population is working and 65% have access to an average 11-12 million sq ft of public spaces where, at any given time, a quarter of a million or more people are present. The same statistical scenario holds true for transport terminals like bus, train & air.

With a staggering overall 15-20 million sq feet of space encompassing public & private utilities or services, the safety and security of the people having access to them hangs in the balance. The recent spate of terror attacks as well as accidents & incidents caused by human error has raised questions - not just on the government but even at local levels right down to commercial & residential areas. How secure & safe are the immediate surroundings?

According to research, there will be a spurt in production of security gadgets and also an increasing deployment of security personnel. It is estimated that over two lakh security professionals will be required in coming years.

Nigel Luke Brown, Director- Exhibitions, UBM India said, “The security industry, which has been growing in India at 25% over the past 5-7 years, would achieve a growth rate of 125% by 2012. India’s Private Security Agency (Regulation) Act of 2005 has aided industry growth and it is expected to touch Rs 50,000 crore as security becomes top priority”

The demand for security gadgets has gone up in educational institutions, hospitals, shopping malls etc, resulting in the need to import more goods which will equate to Rs 20,000 crore in the next two years.

To answer this sudden rise in demand and expectations of security, UBM India is set to host IFSEC India 2011 at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi, India from 08 - 10 December 2011. Pegged as India’s Largest Exhibition for Commercial & Homeland Security, the event is supported by UK Trade & Investments & APSA- Asian professional Security Association & Certified by US Commercial Services. The Homeland Security India conference will also be held in partnership with ASSOCHAM.

250 leading Security Companies will be exhibiting & there will be country pavilions from USA, UK, Sweden, France & Taiwan.
