By Sisvel, PRNEMonday, October 18, 2010
Call for Essential DVB-C2 Patents Issued
STUTTGART, Germany, October 19, 2010 - Sisvel announced today that a group of leading patent owners have asked
Sisvel to act as the facilitator for the creation of a DVB-C2 joint patent
licensing program, or patent pool. Accordingly, Sisvel issues a call for
patents and patent applications essential to the DVB-C2 Standard.
A joint licensing program will offer convenient access to DVB-C2
technology to all users on fair, reasonable, and non-discriminatory terms and
conditions. Sisvel invites all parties holding a patent or a patent
application that they believe to be essential to the DVB-C2 standard to
submit it for an evaluation of essentiality by Sisvel's designated
independent patent evaluator.
Holders of patents or patent applications deemed to be essential will be
invited to participate in the formation of the licensing program (subject to
certain terms and conditions). The formation process will begin with a
meeting in Barcelona on February 16, 2011. To complete patent evaluations in
time for this meeting, applications are requested to be filed as soon as
possible and no later than December 15, 2010. Detailed information on patent
submission procedures can be obtained from Sisvel by sending an email to the
following address: dvb-c2@sisvel.com.
Sisvel's selection as facilitator of a DVB-C2 patent pool follows its
recent launch of the DVB-T2 joint patent licensing program. In issuing the
call for patents, Giustino de Sanctis, Managing Director of Sisvel Germany,
GmbH, noted: "Sisvel is delighted to start work on a DVB-C2 pool to provide
greater certainty and predictability around licensing terms and conditions.
DVB-C2 technology represents an important step forward in digital cable
television and promises to be great complement to the DVB family of standards
for broadcasting." He added, "Sisvel is delighted to continue creating joint
licensing programs that promote faster adoption of DVB standards."
