VIENNA, March 25, 2011 - In his new book "Standardization - challenge and opportunity" expert
Guido Gürtler explains how the business potential of standardization can be
used successfully.

The book provides 39 insider hints and 11 detailed practical examples for
entrepreneurs who wish to take an active role in shaping standards in order
to raise their company's competitiveness.

Using graphic examples, Gürtler illustrates the value of standards for
entrepreneurs and the economy and clears up prejudices. "Those who believe
that standards are drawn up in an ivory tower are wrong: experts from
companies, authorities and scientists are involved in their development. The
results are applied on a daily basis in business life and frequently all over
the world." Standards are relevant for companies and determine their success.

Therefore, it is all the more important to raise the competence of
employees so they can input and use their own expertise in standardization
through confident and skilful negotiations. Gürtler: "The focus is primarily
on economy, people and business. By engaging in standardization, you can
profit a lot."

"Up to know, standards concentrated on technology and engineering,
whereas economic and legal aspects were frequently neglected. In fact,
however, they create a framework for business activities in a transparent and
safe environment," explains the international standardization expert who has
served as head of Corporate Standardization and Regulation at Siemens
International and has been active in committees on a national, European and
international level for many years.

The book is issued by "Austrian Standards plus Publishing". Online
