HAMBURG, Germany, January 19, 2011 - activagers.com - the international social community for the middle-aged
generation (40-65 years) - has recently conducted two surveys amongst its
users from UK, DE, FR, ES, IT, PT, RU to better understand their attitude to
social networks and new technologies. The typical activagers member is 44
years old (53% female, 47% male), highly educated and internationally
The results of the surveys put the 40+ generation under a new light.
International communities like Facebook or MySpace are considered by 83% of
the interviewed as a "must" to maintain existing contacts while specialized
communities like activagers are used as a place to meet new people (66%) and
discuss mutual interests (62%). About 60% of the activagers-users are members
of at least two social communities and 79% of them are on activagers because
they feel "amongst themselves" (ca. 85% of Italian and French users).
The 40+ generation in our survey is very interested in new technologies
such as internet and devices (Total: 92%) and they are shifting more of their
time online (internet). This interest, unlike digital natives, has grown
mainly in close contact to classical media like TV and newspapers.
In total 88% of the interviewed users shifted more than one hour a day
from TV to internet and 59% more than two hours. In UK 100% of those
interviewed spent more than one hour a day on the internet (Germany: 95%). In
France and Spain the internet is mainly used for work reasons (39% and 35%)
while Germans tend to use the internet mainly for Chat/IM (39%).
Another important survey result is that the 40+ generation is also
interested in new devices like the tablet-PCs - 65% of the interviewed wanted
to buy one (RU: 82%) - , but only 23% have bought one (Total: 23%, RU: 73%),
mainly due to the high prices (Total: 72%).
