- Web-based Job Fair Creates Platform for Making Powerful Connections
Zebrajobs.com and the Corporate Council on Africa (CCA) have launched the first Africa Virtual Job Fair, which went live on September 30, 2009. The event was a success with over 1,300 job seekers who logged on the day of the launch to connect with over 100 representatives from the 15 exhibiting companies. IBM was a lead sponsor of this innovative platform that has drawn interest from over 8,500 registered job seekers worldwide. The Africa Virtual Job Fair will remain open on demand for the next three months until December 30, 2009.
Zebrajobs launched the AVJF during the 7th Biennial U.S.-Africa Business Summit organized by the Corporate Council on Africa, emphasizing the importance of building Africa’s human capacity for the development and economic progress of the continent. The Summit was held at Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C., September 29 — October 1, 2009 under the theme of “Realizing the Investment Power of Africa.” Zebrajobs showcased the live Africa Virtual Job Fair at the U.S.-Africa Business Summit, which was attended by African heads of state and their cabinet ministers, along with CEOs of fortune 500 companies, and heads of international organizations and more than 1,500 leaders from the private and public sectors in the U.S. and Africa.
Africa Virtual Job Fair participating companies and organizations were able to utilize the interactive and engaging features of the AVJF to serve their recruitment needs in Africa. “Our vision behind the launch of this first-ever virtual job fair is focused on meeting multiple goals,” explained Yusuf Reja, Chief Executive Officer of Zebrajobs.com. “We are committed to maintaining a climate that encourages U.S. and other foreign corporations and organizations to do business in Africa. Critical to this effort is having a talent base from which they can staff their operations. We also see the African Virtual Job Fair as a great opportunity to increase the number of jobs available for those unemployed throughout Africa and to reach out to Africans in the Diaspora and encourage them to return to their homeland.”
The Africa Virtual Job Fair has attracted job seekers from around the globe as well as Africans in the Diaspora for career opportunities with public and private corporations and organizations operating across the continent. Attendees of the AVJF were able to browse employment opportunities, submit resumes, get information about employers, watch presentations, chat with potential employers, and network with other attendees and representatives — all at no cost and in the comfort of their own home or office. Job seekers that attended the live Africa Virtual Job Fair were able to make invaluable connections to help them land their dream job in Africa.
