5th Anniversary of Enlargement on TV5 Monde

BRUSSELS - TV5 Monde will broadcast a 90 minutes long special programme to mark the occasion of the fifth anniversary of the biggest enlargement of the EU to date. The production is realised in cooperation with the European Commission, Directorate General of Enlargement and will be broadcasted on Thursday 30th April 2009 at 9 pm (CET time).

This special programme, called “Vivre à 27… et après?”, will look back at the economic and social repercussions of integration and at the EU enlargement process which, aside from the political challenges to be dealt with, raises numerous questions on how Europe functions with 27 members on a daily basis.

Several European panellists, including Michaela JELINKOVA, spokesperson for the Czech Republics Deputy Prime Minister for European affairs, Thomas SNÉGAROFF, historian and specialist on Europe and Pierre MIREL, Director in charge of Enlargement in the European Commission, will debate the impact of the 2004 enlargement in the National Museum of Music in Prague. The former President of the Czech Republic Vaclav HAVEL will also express his views in a recorded interview.

A series of reports filmed by TV5MONDE in several new member states, candidate countries and potential candidates will be giving insights about the benefits and challenges of EU enlargement. The reports will deal with social and economic developments notably in Poland, Czech Republic, Estonia, Cyprus, Turkey and Serbia.

The audiovisual material will be available, in international versions, free of charge and without any copyright restrictions, for European broadcasters at national, regional or local level.
