LONDON, November 17, 2011 -

From November 15th - 25th The Sisterhood are auctioning their original Dragon Boat via eBay to raise money for charity. The boat, touched by royalty, has been made famous by its many adventures across the English Channel and the River Thames, and by its past and present glamorous occupants.

Who is ‘The Sisterhood’?

The Sisterhood is an elite group of female athletes talented in many ways, toned to perfection, with a mission to keep boldly going where no girls have gone before. Their fundraising parties are as notorious as their sporting achievements and a perfect balance between alcohol and Lucozade consumption has been achieved.

Founded in 2007, the original challenge was to race the Dragon Boat across the English Channel which The Sisterhood achieved in a World Record time of 3 hours 42 minutes. The following year they took part in Great Amazon Raft Race paddling 180km down the Amazon in Peru. 2010 saw the continuation of world domination with sisters partaking in a Coast-to-Coast adventure across Costa Rica. Other challenges competed in every year include: 6.5km swim across the Bosphorus in Istanbul from Europe to Asia, 42 Km Vogolonga regatta in Venice and the 21 mile Great River Race in London. At heart The Sisterhood are a Dragon Boat team, but also compete in challenges off the water and this year some of ‘The Hood’ completed an Ironwoman in Austria, climbed Everest (again), ran marathons in various locations and completed many more individual adventure races and triathlons.

Established as a serious female adventure team we now have corporate sponsorship from a variety of clothing, drinks and telecoms brands and have a respected media profile. A team of 40 photogenic women from a variety of professions and sporting backgrounds, from investment bankers to camera women, we come from all walks of life and corners of the globe and aren’t afraid to paddle hard but party harder.

Why auction our boat?

We ‘Dragon Boat’ in all forms of weather and over the years our trusty boat has suffered the fates of the elements and aged worse than we have. Very sadly our trusty boat is no longer fit to compete in river races and needs to retire to a loving home where we hope she will be kept in the manner to which she has become accustomed.

We have now bought a new boat for future competitions but would like to auction off the old boat as part of our fundraising, which to date has raised over £350,000 for the nominated Sisterhood charities. As a second hand Dragon Boat it may be worth a few hundred pounds, but as a piece of floating history and a boat which has been involved in more adventure, gossip, romance and good times than most people have had hot dinners - it’s priceless.

When & how will the boat be auctioned?

The boat has been put to auction on eBay with the closing date of the afternoon of Friday 25th November - the date of The Sisterhood Christmas Ball at The Science Museum, London.
