Enhances Birlasoft capability including high value onsite consulting and offshore development services
EDISON, New Jersey and NEW DELHI, May 5, 2010 - Global IT services company Birlasoft has acquired the Engineering Design
Services team of AVTEC as part of its strategic move to provide engineering
services consulting and outsourcing to customers.
AVTEC, the country's largest independent manufacturer of engines and
transmissions (Powertrains), is much known for supplying critical auto
components to reputed global OEMs including GM, Ford, Mahindra & Mahindra,
Daimler, Tata, Eaton, Caterpillar, BEML etc.
Birlasoft CEO Arup Gupta says, "At Birlasoft, we have been providing
manufacturing & engineering design & analysis services across multiple
software platforms to over 20 companies including some pioneering majors
ranking among the Fortune 10. This strategic move comes from our conviction
that the demand for engineering talent is growing globally. India is today
the leading engineering off-shoring destination as per a recent report by
NASSCOM and Booz Allen & Co. Driven by its large engineering talent pool, and
maturing engineering ecosystem, India has the potential to garner a much
larger market share as global organizations focus on innovation, end-to-end
product development and opportunities in emerging economies. The Birlasoft
team will play a significant role in opening up new windows of opportunity
for India in this high value consulting and services segment and help move
the country towards the next step in globalization."
AVTEC CEO Prabhakar Kadapa concurs, "Global spending on engineering
services is large and rising, constituting about 2% of global GDP as per the
study projections. Companies are increasingly moving these high-value
services to emerging markets. India's current revenue base in the off-shore
engineering services market is relatively small as compared to its mature
information technology sector. I congratulate Birlasoft for upgrading the
talent to leverage the information technology outsourcing maturity that it
has to grow the offshore engineering services market. This will create more
high value service opportunities for people of India while benefitting the
manufacturing industry globally."
Building on India's projected potential, Birlasoft's Global Head for
Manufacturing Services Deepak Marwah adds, "With this acquisition of the
talent pool, we have built scale by leveraging AVTEC's experience in the
manufacturing integrated engineering services domain. The AVTEC team brings
with itself high management skills, consulting capability and business
excellence focus in addition to leading edge domain expertise. Birlasoft is
thus committed to newer and deeper client partnerships through its now very
strong and more superior team."
With TS 16949, ISO 14001, ISO 9001 certifications under its belt, the
AVTEC team won the 2003 award for TPM Excellence. The team is further
recognized for earning AVTEC the Q1 supplier status, a Ford certification
that ranks its suppliers globally as per its own quality system.
Earlier, Birlasoft had acquired similar talent from Hindustan Motors to
enhance its onsite consulting & offshore development prowess.
Birlasoft, a SEI CMMI V1.2 Level 5 organization, recently announced the
establishment of its global development centres in Mexico and China.
