LONDON, February 12 - UK voters are being given the chance to see for themselves their
parliamentary prospective candidates (PPCs) and what they're offering in a
unique video online hustings.

Video communications company www.winkball.com plan to interview
over 3000 candidates from the main parties. They'll sum up their manifestos
in just a couple of minutes, to give voters a bite-sized insight into issues
affecting their local constituencies.

WinkBall reporters will be sent to all 642 constituencies in what is the
first opportunity ever for voters to examine so many would-be MPs online
using video. The website is combining the democratic elements of the Internet
with the emotional power of video - to entice potential politicians into the
21st century!

Candidates from the 5 main parties in England will all be offered the
chance to be interviewed and explain what policies they are proposing. That
includes Labour, the Conservatives, the Liberal Democrats, UK Independence
Party (UKIP) and the Green Party, as well as many standing as independents -
without any party affiliations. This will be extended to include the Scottish
National Party (SNP) in Scotland, Plaid Cymru in Wales and Sinn Fein and the
Democratic Unionists in Northern Ireland.

Each candidate will sum up in a video interview what issues are most
important to them, and where they stand on key policies. Voters can respond
with their own comments, recorded on web cameras, or can even leave a
question in a hope that a candidate will respond to them.

WinkBall co-founder Dr James Ohene-Djan says, "Campaigning has never been
this exciting. Never before has the electorate had such an amazing insight
into so many prospective parliamentary candidates. This is a first for the UK
and a fantastic opportunity for voters to see what exactly makes their local
candidates tick. General Elections are so often fought and won on national
issues, but by publishing the views of practically every candidate standing
online, this is a great way of making a national election local.

"Voters can also get involved with their local candidates. All they have
to do is record and post their own comment or question on a video wall to
which a candidate can choose to respond to."

As well as mainstream politics, WinkBall.com also intends to cover some
of the stories particular to this General Election. For example, voters can
expect to see videos with the likes of Royle Family star, actor Ricky
Tomlinson
, who says he wants to stand in the General Election in protest at
the Labour party's selection of candidate for the Liverpool Wavertree seat,
Luciana Berger. Ms Berger got in to hot water last week when she couldn't say
who Liverpool's legendary manager Bill Shankly (OBE) was, or who sang the hit
Ferry 'Cross the Mersey.
