EDF Energy to Use BC From UNIT4 for Major London Underground Power Upgrade Project
By Unit4, PRNEMonday, July 12, 2010
READING, England, July 13, 2010 - EDF Energy, which is already a user of UNIT4 Collaboration Software
Limited's BC system across a number of departments, has now selected the
project collaboration system for use in the Rail Sector of its Infrastructure
Services Division. This team is responsible for capital works and maintenance
contracts relating to the development and supply of power engineering to rail
companies.
The first project that BC is being used for, on behalf of Transport for
London, is a multi-million-pound project to upgrade 16 London Underground
substation sites over a three-year period. The system is providing a central
hub for information management and collaboration on documents and drawings.
"We had a short lead time to get the project up and running and I knew
that we could set up BC in time for our eight-week mobilisation deadline,"
said David Gabbe, Project Controls Engineer at EDF Energy Infrastructure
Services - Rail. "We had used the system before, on a previous project
through our consortium partner Balfour Beatty, so the team were already
familiar with using it. I also knew that the BC system provided flexibility
around software set-up, so we could tailor it to reflect the way that London
Underground required information to be presented."
The London Underground project has a design review system requiring
specialists from several disciplines, including the contracted maintainer and
operator, EDF Energy's Powerlink, to review and approve documents in parallel
to one another.
"BC is providing a framework for collaboration during the complex design
process and the level of detail that it collects, backed up by a
sophisticated audit trail, ensures that we can deliver what we have promised
to our client. Its reporting capability also ensures that whatever
information the client requires, we can deliver it without any delay," Mr
Gabbe concluded.
