LONDON - The “2009 European Mammography Systems Product Quality Leadership Award”
is presented to FUJIFILM Corporation in recognition of the exceptional
quality of its Computed Radiography (CR) mammography systems. The company’s
superior quality control, product performance, quality assurance programme
and product manufacturing are also commended.

“In addition to being a high performance system, FUJIFILM’s mammography
system also allows users with a single point of entry to instant image
viewing and reporting,” notes Frost & Sullivan Research Analyst Smruti
Munshi. “This enables staff and clinicians to have ready access to the
information they need to work efficiently and make optimal decisions about
patient care.”

The provision to integrate the mammography system with picture archiving
and communication systems (PACS) offers immense workflow and clinical
advantages. The integration also delivers shared storage infrastructure and
cost savings benefits for facilities utilising both systems.

FUJIFILM’s digital mammography system - Computed Radiography for
Mammography, works as an x-ray machine to existing medical imaging apparatus,
which makes the system very useful. This system is extremely economical due
to the fact that one FUJIFILM Computed Radiography (FCRm) reader can serve up
to three exam rooms. This facilitates making every room digital without
replacing existing equipment.

“The system is multipurpose and can be used for any general radiographic
procedure, accommodating virtually all patients with one system,” states
Munshi. “The low cost of ownership of FUJIFILM’s products as compared to its
competitors has enabled several customers to shift to digital.”

The FUJIFILM mammography system uses advanced image processing such as
Multi-objective Frequency Processing (MFP) and Pattern Enhancement for
Mammography (PEM). These technologies support sophisticated image analysis
and reduce the difficulty of interpreting the limited contrast and narrow
exposure latitude of mammography. The FUJIFILM Mammography System allows a
large field of view and can be integrated with its enterprise PACS
Synapse(R). Thus, images can be acquired and archived digitally.

“The digital acquisition-to-archive solution helps meet the demands of
breast imaging facilities - from stand-alone sites to large multi-room,
multi-modality facilities,” remarks Munshi. “FUJIFILM’s mammography solution
provides exceptional image quality, cost-effectiveness and permits smooth
image and information management.”

FUJIFILM Corporation has developed a high resolution Imaging Plate (IP)
with a transparent support and a reading system. This Dual-Side IP (Imaging
Plate) reading is a technological breakthrough that significantly improves
the image quality of the CR mammography.

“The FUJIFILM mammography system offers multiple advantages with regard
to service design, outreach assessment, potential for dose reduction, image
manipulation, archiving and links with other services,” adds Munshi. “This
system can be easily adapted to all current mammography systems and provides
an affordable and immediate option for both small and large breast screening
services.”

A mammography quality assurance programme, UltiMA, bears testimony to the
high quality systems brought out by FUJIFILM. This comprehensive programme
smoothes workflows, supports optimal clinical results and underpins
FUJIFILM’s edge in system quality, efficiency and usability.

The Frost & Sullivan Award for Product Quality Leadership is bestowed
upon the company that has demonstrated superior quality control over its
competitors in product manufacturing. Quality control is an essential element
of satisfying customers, increasing repeat buying behavior, and assuring
long-term market survival.

Frost & Sullivan Best Practices Awards recognise companies in a variety
of regional and global markets for demonstrating outstanding achievement and
superior performance in areas such as leadership, technological innovation,
customer service, and strategic product development. Industry analysts
compare market participants and measure performance through in-depth
interviews, analysis, and extensive secondary research in order to identify
best practices in the industry.
