LONDON -

Greenberg Traurig Maher LLP, the recently established London office of international law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP, announced that Stephen Tupper will join the firm on 21 September, bringing the number of shareholders in the rapidly-growing office to eight and establishing its Competition Practice.

Tupper joins Greenberg Traurig Maher from Watson, Farley & Williams, where he was head of the Competition and Regulatory Group. His diverse practice is concentrated on competition and regulatory matters, including behavioural work, disputes and regulatory matters and merger control, in sectors such as water, shipping, chemicals, hospitality and travel and medical instruments. He qualified as a Barrister, before converting to a solicitor, as well as being admitted to the New York Bar. He spent five years practicing in the United States and was formerly the Managing Partner of the Brussels office of Hammonds LLP before moving to its London office in January 1998 to lead the UK Competition and Regulatory Team. He joined Watson, Farley & Williams in January 2004.

“We are delighted to have found the head of our Competition practice in London,” said Paul Maher, Chairman of Greenberg Traurig Maher’s London office. “Stephen has a significant depth and breadth of experience in this field and clear ability to grow a practice and team that will assist us in building our London office.”

Tupper’s team of two associates, Lisa Navarro and Andrew Bailey, who also focus their practices in the area of competition, are also joining Greenberg Traurig Maher.

“We are committed to strategic growth in London and Europe and continue to add top-tier quality lawyers to support that strategy and complement our diverse platform,” said Richard A. Rosenbaum, Greenberg Traurig’s President. “The addition of Stephen and his team to our London office adds a key component to our European practice.”

The practice is growing internationally. Tupper joins on the heels of a number of high profile competition/antitrust additions at the firm: Irving Scher and Scott Martin recently joined the New York City office from Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP; and Andrew G. Berg joined the Washington, D.C. office in March 2009 from Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal.
