Highlights Public Safety Communications and Information Management Capabilities
LONDON, April 20, 2010 - Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE: NOC) is participating in the British
Association of Public Safety Communications Officers (BAPCO) annual
conference and exhibition where it will showcase its integrated
communications and information systems capabilities and advanced technology
solutions for the first responder community and public safety agencies.
BAPCO takes place from 20-22 April 2010 at the Business Design Centre,
Islington, London and is the premier event in Europe focused on current and
emerging technologies for civil contingency response, business continuity and
communications and information management.
"Our range of advanced technologies from secure broadband wireless
networks to computer-aided dispatch systems and biometric information
scanning puts Northrop Grumman at the forefront of national security and
public safety communications," said Sir Nigel Essenhigh, chief executive of
Northrop Grumman's Information Systems sector in Europe. "The capabilities we
have on display at BAPCO demonstrate our expertise in the integration of
complex information systems and the tangible benefits that are available now
to the emergency services and front line users."
Northrop Grumman will highlight its mobile wireless broadband expertise
and the operational benefits of delivering secure mobile broadband data to
emergency services and front line policing. This will be demonstrated by
transmitting live streaming video from remote and local cameras over a
wireless high speed data path to mobile devices including tablet PCs. This
capability is based on the company's New York City's public safety wireless
broadband network and the successful UK trials of transmitting broadband
mobile data held in collaboration with Sussex Police and the National
Policing Improvement Agency (NPIA). The demonstration will include Northrop
Grumman's unmanned ground vehicle Caliber which will provide a live video
feed from a camera mounted on its manipulator-arm.
Northrop Grumman's mobile biometric data capture and information search
capability for rapid identity management will also be on display. BioTRAC is
a compact electronic mobile scanning system integrated with a ruggedized
laptop computer which enables the biometric capture of fingerprints, face,
iris and voice together with rapid biometric matching capabilities. Captured
biometric information can be sent to local policing databases as well as
national and international repositories. Livescan Lite is also a mobile
biometric system for electronically capturing finger and palm print images
and demographic data. The devices allow real-time searching of the UK's
national biometric and fingerprint database on the system known as IDENT1.
Livescan Lite is currently used by police forces throughout England and Wales
to provide fingerprint identification services outside of the normal police
station custody environment, such as during major sporting events, providing
significant operational benefits.
The company's Command Point computer-aided dispatch application will also
be featured. Northrop Grumman has been awarded the contract to provide the
computer-aided dispatch system for the London Ambulance Service to handle
emergency calls and ambulance movements. It is designing, developing and will
implement the new system, which will be fully operational to support the
London Ambulance Service during the 2012 London Olympics.
Featured also will be Northrop Grumman's leading capability in tactical
command and control systems based on the software application Command and
Control for the PC (C2PC). Presentations will be available showing
surveillance and intelligence solutions based on the core capabilities
provided by the Integrated Tactical Command and Control system (I-TaCCS) a
land, sea and air and dismounted soldier-based C4I solution.
Northrop Grumman has more than 50-years of experience designing,
integrating, and operating some of the world's most complex and secure
communications and information systems. It provided the core systems
integration for the UK's Airwave service, the secure digital radio network
used by the emergency and public safety services and is delivering New York
City's public safety wireless broadband network. The company has also
implemented large-scale computer-aided dispatch systems in seven out of the
ten largest cities in the U.S., including New York, Los Angeles and Chicago.
Northrop Grumman operates from a number of locations in the UK providing
avionics, communications, electronic warfare systems, marine navigation
systems, unmanned ground systems, C4ISR solutions and mission planning,
airport security, aircraft whole life support, IT systems and software
development.
