HILVERSUM, Netherlands and SAN JOSE, California -

Breakthrough interactive experiences that can be delivered via both next-generation CI+ enabled televisions and existing set-top boxes will be showcased when ActiveVideo Networks(TM) demonstrates its cloud-based approach to redefining television (iTV 2.0) at IBC in September.

The exhibit will show how processing in the network “cloud” can dramatically increase the interactive capabilities of the new CI+ standard and provide a uniform environment across CI+ supported TVs, digital and IPTV set-top boxes and broadband-connected CE devices. The demonstration will feature intuitive VoD menuing, rich navigational mosaics, brand-name channels and other services.

The exhibit at Stand 5.B46 at the RAI Amsterdam will showcase for the first time the full breadth of the combined solutions of ActiveVideo Networks and Avinity Systems BV, a Netherlands-based interactive TV provider that has been acquired by ActiveVideo. ActiveVideo(R) anticipates that its cloud-based solutions will be in more than 5 million homes worldwide by the end of the current year.

“Service providers and programmers are seeking ways to deliver compelling services to the installed base of set-top boxes, as well as to the CI+ generation of televisions that is now coming to market,” said Ronald Brockmann, managing director, Europe for ActiveVideo. “ActiveVideo’s network-based approach overcomes the limitations of existing STBs and CI+ devices to enable the richness of interactivity and consistent user experience that can engage and monetize viewers.”

Currently deployed with Oceanic Time Warner Cable and a variety of other cable and IPTV providers in the United States, Europe and Hong Kong, ActiveVideo immerses viewers in an engaging experience that combines Web video, Web 2.0 functionality and traditional television. The company uses an ultra-thin client in the set-top box or CI+ module to pass user keystrokes from standard remote controls to servers in the network. With ActiveVideo, viewers can navigate a completely interactive environment of both linear and broadband programming including rich interfaces and graphics optimized for TV and remote control navigation; social networking; personal media; niche content; and targeted, actionable advertising.
