ST HELIER, Jersey, November 10, 2011 -

The second “Wild at Art” charity auction in aid of Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust is to be sponsored by Santander Private Banking in Jersey, with  the event taking place at BAFTA in London on 01 December 2011. Santander Private Banking in Jersey is committed to environmental conservation and has already completed two projects in Jersey working on the renovation of the Durrell organic farm. This year alone, in excess of 600 voluntary staff hours were spent clearing and renovating this important site.

Durrell is an international charity working globally towards saving species from extinction and it plays a vital role in worldwide environmental conservation. Durrell has developed a worldwide reputation for its pioneering conservation techniques and funds raised at the auction will help the organisation to continue this important work.

Some 40 lots are expected to be sold on the day, with a rare boxed set of 17 vintage photographs of Frank Sinatra by the legendary British photographer Terry O’Neill heading a fine array of art in this year’s auction. As well as the Sinatra collection, the auction features a number of Terry O’Neill’s other photographs including a boxed set of Brigitte Bardot photographs valued at £17,000.

There will be sculpture and paintings too, as this year’s auction features pieces by the internationally recognized master sculptor of the animal in motion Mark Coreth and Dame Maggi Hambling, whose well known memorial to Oscar Wilde is located in Central London. Work by Nick Day, who is one of Britain’s most renowned wildlife artists, Nicola Hicks, one of Britain’s foremost sculptors and Oliver Clegg, singled out by the British press as a ‘rising star’ of the London contemporary arts scene will also be on sale.

Estimated values of the art on offer range from £25,000 to just a few hundred pounds giving everyone the chance to buy something to suit their budget and help save species from extinction. The full collection can be viewed online at www.durrell.org/art.

Commenting on the event, Santander Private Banking Managing Director Colin Huelin said, “We are honoured to be able to support such a worthwhile event and we are confident that the sale of these works of art which have all been donated will raise a substantial amount of funds to help Durrell in their worldwide conservation work. Here at Santander Private Banking in Jersey we are committed to environmental protection and many of our staff regularly raise funds in Jersey for Durrell and other community and environmental initiatives.”
