AMSTERDAM, The Netherlands, August 22, 2011 -
The Tommy Hilfiger Group, which is wholly owned by PVH Corp. [NYSE: PVH], is pleased to announce the November 24, 2011 opening of a European flagship store in London’s historic Knightsbridge, at 63-65 Brompton Road, SW3. The store, located amidst a mix of premium retailers in the heart of one of Europe’s most prestigious shopping areas, will be the brand’s third largest store in Europe.
“We are extremely pleased to open a flagship in this important city to showcase the complete world of Tommy Hilfiger,” said Fred Gehring, CEO of Tommy Hilfiger. “The opening in this impressive retail environment provides us with an additional opportunity to position the brand in the market. London is one of the world’s leading cities in retail and Brompton Road offers a unique blend of luxury and more accessible retail, making it the perfect location for our brand. Given the momentum of our business in the UK, this is a natural evolution to deliver on our goal to have a flagship store in all of the capital cities of Europe.”
“I am really excited to open our European flagship store on London’s prestigious Brompton Road,” said Tommy Hilfiger. “Since starting my brand in 1985, prep has been my main inspiration, and as the birthplace of preppy style, England is very close to my heart. London, rich in culture, history and art, is the perfect location for us to anchor our largest UK flagship store, and offer our customers the complete classic American cool Tommy Hilfiger lifestyle.”
As one of London’s earliest established fashionable shopping locations, Brompton Road is internationally recognized as a destination for design, architecture and culture, dating back to the Great Exhibition of 1851, after which the impressive shopping streets that make up Knightsbridge were first built. Beyond the flagship’s late Victorian façade, which originates from 1903, the store will reflect the brand’s signature classic, American, cool aesthetic.
The 8,288 square foot / 770 square meter interior space, which covers two floors, will echo the refined elegance of the brand’s Fifth Avenue New York City global flagship store with polished walnut fixtures and oak flooring. The men’s Runway, Sportswear and Hilfiger Denim collections will be showcased on the ground floor along with the Tailored line, which will make its debut in the United Kingdom. The area will be atmospheric, with a vintage drapers table and antique furniture, and will include a dedicated area for men’s accessories. A round glass elevator leads up to the first floor, where the women’s Runway and Sportswear collections will be presented with a separate area for accessories. The first floor will also house Childrenswear, which will be showcased in a dedicated room, packed with fun and colorful details, while Hilfiger Denim for women will be showcased in an adjacent room with a glazed roof.
Tommy Hilfiger’s signature twist will be recognized throughout the store, with uniquely dressed mannequins and vintage props, as well as contemporary design pieces and art works contributing to the classic American cool atmosphere of the store. To commemorate the opening, the store will feature an exclusive product offering and upscale retail services that echo the brand’s other London anchor store on Regent Street, in addition to varying bi-weekly complimentary activities and shopping nights.
There are over 1,000 Tommy Hilfiger stores currently worldwide, with freestanding stores located in New York, Paris, Milan, Amsterdam, Berlin, Brussels, Barcelona, Vienna, Hong Kong, Buenos Aires, St. Tropez, Istanbul, Antwerp, Munich, Athens, Madrid, and Miami, among others.
