QUINCY, Massachusetts, December 4 - Systagenix Wound Management, a leading medical device company that
specializes in cutting-edge chronic wound care solutions, is expanding its
operations by opening North, Central, and South American Headquarters in
Quincy, Massachusetts.
The company officially opened its Quincy, Massachusetts headquarters
today. Speaking at the ribbon-cutting were Massachusetts Life Sciences Center
(www.masslifesciences.com/) President and CEO Dr. Susan
Windham-Bannister, Massachusetts Office of International Trade & Investment
(www.moiti.state.ma.us/) Executive Director Ted Carr, British Consul
General to New England Dr. Phil Budden, Systagenix Wound Management CEO Steve
Atkinson, Systagenix President of the Americas Scott Schorer, and South Shore
Chamber of Commerce President & CEO Peter Forman.
"I initially moved to the Boston area due to its outstanding local life
sciences resources," said Schorer. "That same reason was critical in our
decision-making criteria as we chose to locate the Americas Office for
Systagenix in Quincy. We have been very successful in retaining world-class
local talent in all key medical job specialties, and look forward to
partnering with local hospitals and researchers as we continue to reinforce
our technology leadership in the chronic wound market."
"Our vision is to create the strongest and most admired wound care
company in the world," said Atkinson. "We are well on our way towards
achieving that goal with the legacy of cutting edge products and heritage of
quality we inherited from Johnson & Johnson. The move to Massachusetts has
helped to further our drive to achieve our vision, as we have found the
environment very supportive of our efforts. We work very closely with the
clinical community to develop new products, and to study the efficacy of our
current products, and hope that we can leverage the strong clinical and life
sciences community in the local Boston area to further those goals."
Systagenix, formerly the professional wound care division of Ethicon, a
Johnson & Johnson company, continues to develop a wide array of innovative
products to treat acute and chronic wounds. Their ongoing commitment and
dedication is to provide the clinical community with the breakthrough
solutions they need to treat and heal complex wounds. For more information

"The Life Sciences Initiative was designed to bring jobs to the
Commonwealth and support vital research, and this is further proof that it is
working," said Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick. "We warmly welcome
Systagenix to the Commonwealth, to Quincy and to the diverse group of
pioneering companies that are making Massachusetts a global leader in medical
device technology."
"We are very excited to see this innovative company come to our state,
bringing new jobs and promising medical technologies" said Dr. Susan
Windham-Bannister, President & CEO of the Massachusetts Life Sciences Center,
the quasi-public agency charged with implementing the state's ten-year, $1
billion Life Sciences Initiative. "Massachusetts is a great place to do
business for life sciences companies, both international and domestic, and we
welcome Systagenix to the world's leading life sciences SuperCluster."
"We are proud to welcome Systagenix to the Commonwealth. Massachusetts is
the global location for innovation and a company like Systagenix, which has
been on the cutting edge of medical products since its inception, is a
perfect fit," said Ted Carr, Executive Director of the Massachusetts Office
of International Trade & Investment. "We look forward to working with them
and watching them grow in the years to come."
"Systagenix Wound Management's new Americas headquarters in Quincy
affirms why Massachusetts and its 'hub of innovation' is such an attractive
destination for UK life sciences firms," said British Consul General Phil
Budden. "This state is home to cutting-edge academic institutions, dynamic
opportunities for collaboration and healthy competition, and the world's
pre-eminent hospitals and research laboratories. As the British Government's
representative in New England, I commend Systagenix for choosing
Massachusetts for their first office in the United States."
"The South Shore is thrilled to welcome Systagenix as an industry leader
to our region," said Peter Forman, President & CEO of the South Shore Chamber
of Commerce. "A growing number of international and life science companies
are discovering the South Shore and Systagenix will feel right at home here.
We look forward to a bright future and long, steady growth from Systagenix."
Systagenix' decision to locate in Quincy is part of a growing trend of
foreign life sciences companies locating their regional headquarters in
Massachusetts. Biocell Center, an Italian company, recently opened their US
headquarters in Medford, Massachusetts. Biocell Center cited the state's Life
Sciences Initiative as a key factor in their decision to locate here.
In addition to clinical and new product development, Systagenix'
Massachusetts-based operations will focus on expanding its support for
clinicians treating chronic wounds across the entire Western Hemisphere.
"For the South Shore this is one more company within the 128 belt area
that we can add to the list of life sciences companies that are booming here"
said State Senator Michael Morrissey (D-Quincy). "To be chosen for the
Americas headquarters indicates that we have a lot to offer in workforce
access and skilled talent."
"The decision to locate the North, Central and South American
headquarters of Systagenix in Quincy is a clear indicator that our state's
investment in life sciences is burgeoning on the South Shore," said Assistant
Majority Leader Ronald Mariano (D-Quincy). "I welcome Systagenix to the
region, knowing they will reap the benefits from the Commonwealth's top
talent and proven infrastructure in the life sciences industry. I am
confident that Massachusetts will maintain its place at the forefront of
healthcare innovation well into the future."
"Quincy is a great place to do business and I am so pleased that
Systagenix chose our city as the location for its Americas headquarters,"
said State Representative A. Stephen Tobin (D-Quincy). "This move is an
opportunity to bring jobs to our state and more specifically the South
Shore."
