New high sample rate model records vocalizations of the world's bats
PRAGUE, August 22, 2010 - (15th International Bat Research Conference) — Wildlife Acoustics, the
leading supplier of acoustic monitoring systems for endangered and threatened
wildlife species around the world, announces a new high frequency 384kHz
model of the SM2BAT Ultrasonic Recorder.
The SM2BAT 384kHz Terrestrial Ultrasonic Package, starting at US$999, is
a weatherproof, low-power ultrasonic recorder and microphone capable of
continuous unattended monitoring and recording of bat echolocation calls for
long periods of time. An optional acoustic microphone can be added to a
second channel for recording birds, frogs and other non-ultrasonic sounds at
different times of day.
"We are excited to offer the 384kHz SM2BAT recorder to meet the
requirements of the European market for wind farm pre-construction and
post-construction surveys of bat activity," said Ian Agranat, President and
CEO of Wildlife Acoustics. "Researchers now have a choice between our
two-channel 192kHz model suitable for North American species, or the new
single channel 384kHz model for recording higher frequency species such as
the lesser horseshoe bat and others found throughout Europe."
Post-processing "Wac2Wav" software available from Wildlife Acoustics at
no charge converts SM2BAT recordings to either standard .WAV files or legacy
zero-crossing files while removing false triggers caused by background noise.
The SM2BAT 384 Terrestrial Ultrasonic Package will be available in
September and the company is taking orders now.
