FARNBOROUGH, England, July 20, 2010 - The Farnborough International Airshow, 19 - 25 July, marks the first
appearance of the partnership between Promethean and the BLOODHOUND SSC
(Supersonic Car) Project.
The BLOODHOUND SSC Project, which aims to design and build the first
supersonic car capable of achieving 1,000mph and break the current World Land
Speed Record, has partnered with Promethean to inspire young people to pursue
Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) education and careers.
School parties are being invited to see the first life size model of the
BLOODHOUND Supersonic Car (12.8m long, 2.8m high, 1.8m wide) on Friday 23
July, the show's Futures Day, which is dedicated to promoting career
opportunities in aerospace and defence industries.
At the same time, Promethean will be showcasing its range of interactive
STEM resources, developed to support Bloodhound's education programme, on its
all-in-one interactive whiteboard mobile system.
The partnership will also see Promethean installing its ActivClassroom
technology in Bloodhound education centres throughout the UK and equipping
Bloodhound's education ambassadors with relevant software and resources for
use in schools.
Jim Wynn, Chief Education Officer at Promethean, explains: "Farnborough
International Airshow is the perfect event to showcase our partnership.
Promethean is delighted to be involved in this ground-breaking project and we
hope to inspire the next generation of scientists and engineers through our
continued involvement with BLOODHOUND's education programme."
Over 3,500 primary and secondary schools, 200 further education colleges
and 40 higher education institutes are already signed up to Bloodhound's
education programme. They are able to take advantage of open access to the
science and engineering research data involved in developing Bloodhound SSC.
The project is led by Richard Noble and Andy Green, who set the current
land speed record of 763mph in October 1997. Richard Noble comments:
"Farnborough International Airshow is a fantastic place to exhibit the first
life size model of the Bloodhound Supersonic Car. The show has been a great
success and we look forward to working with Promethean to support young
people on their STEM journey over the next three years."
STEM resources will be made available via PrometheanPlanet.com, the
world's largest online interactive whiteboard community. See
