The European Competition Opens!

COLOGNE, Germany, December 6, 2010 - Search for Europe's best radio and TV programmes as well as
webpages on the theme of integration and cultural diversity.

CIVIS, Europe's Media Prize for Integration and Cultural Diversity, is
looking for radio and television programmes as well as journalistic Internet
offers, which handle the themes of integration and cultural diversity in
Europe in a convincing fashion.

The European CIVIS Media Prize 2011 is endowed with a total of 40,000
. All radio and TV broadcasting companies as well as web suppliers in
the European Union and Switzerland can take part. The deadline for entries is
January 20, 2011.

For over two decades CIVIS has been recognizing programme contributions
on radio, television and since last year also in the Internet which promote
the peaceful coexistence of people of the most varied national, ethnic,
religious or cultural origins.

Migration, integration and cultural diversity increasingly leave their
mark on our everyday life. The media thereby have a great responsibility:
because the media not only show the immigration society - they also form it.
The media determine our image of current developments and can make an
important contribution to social integration - as the Chairwoman of the
Board of Trustees of the CIVIS Media Foundation, WDR Director-General
Monika Piel, points out in her invitation to the competition 2011.

The CIVIS Media Prize 2011 will be awarded as European TV Prize and
European Radio Prize for German language programmes. With the "Young CIVIS
Media Prize" there will once again also be a European sponsorship prize.
The "CIVIS Online Media Prize" will offer an additional award for
journalistically-designed webpages on the theme of integration and
cultural diversity.

Together for integration and cultural diversity!

The CIVIS Media Prize is organized by the Association of the Public
Broadcasting Corporations in the Federal Republic of Germany (ARD),
represented by the WDR, together with the Freudenberg Foundation. The ZDF,
ORF, SRG SSR idée suisse, RTV Slovenia, Deutsche Welle, Deutschlandradio,
PHOENIX, ARTE, 3sat and the EBU are media partners.

The German Savings Bank Association, the European Parliament, the
Integration Commissioner of the German Federal Government, the European
Union Agency for Fundamental Rights, the WDR mediagroup, Bavaria Film and
Bavaria TV productions are cooperation partners.
