Initial 10,000-Tag Deployment Focused on Tracking and Managing Assets over Systemwide Cisco Wi-Fi Infrastructure
RESTON, Virginia, September 28, 2010 - Ekahau Inc., the worldwide leader in high performance Wi-Fi-based Real
Time Location Systems (RTLS) (

announced today that Clarian Health (www.clarian.org/), Indiana's most
comprehensive academic medical center consisting of more than a dozen
hospitals throughout the state, is deploying Ekahau RTLS systemwide for asset
tracking. The initial 10,000-tag deployment, scheduled to take place in
November, will target the health care system's three downtown Indianapolis
hospitals - Methodist Hospital, Indiana University Hospital and Riley
Hospital for Children - and is expected to expand systemwide to include
applications such as improved patient workflow, staff safety and temperature

Clarian's decision to deploy Ekahau RTLS for location tracking
applications demonstrates the healthcare system's ongoing commitment to use
leading-edge information technology to improve patient care and safety,
achieve greater operational efficiencies and reduce overall costs.
"At Clarian Health, we use leading-edge technologies to help us improve
patient care, increase efficiency and ensure the safety of everyone at our
facilities, and we continually seek innovations to support these goals," said
Christen M. Mann, director of purchasing and contract services for Clarian's
Supply Chain Operations division. "Through our partnership with Ekahau, we
believe we have found a cost-effective, system wide, real-time location
tracking solution that will allow us to leverage our existing Cisco Wi-Fi
network for a wide variety of applications."
The Ekahau RTLS will enable Clarian clinicians to instantly locate all
tagged clinical assets so they can spend less time searching for equipment
and more time providing care at patients' bedsides. Clarian also will have
the ability to deploy Ekahau's software-based RTLS system without the
disruption associated with installing additional proprietary sensors. In
addition, the Ekahau RTLS can be up-and-running in a matter of weeks, rather
than months or years it could take with other solutions.
The Ekahau RTLS system, which consists of the Ekahau Positioning Engine
and Vision software coupled with a complete line of Wi-Fi tags and sensors,
works with any generation or brand of Wi-Fi network, which was important to
Clarian, since each hospital within its state wide system has varying
generations and types of Cisco Wi-Fi equipment. Additionally, the Ekahau RTLS
intuitive user interface enables Clarian to manage and track assets and
processes across all facilities from a single location.
"Ekahau is honored to have been selected as an enterprise solution
partner for Clarian Health, and to assist it in getting a greater return on
investment for their wireless infrastructure," said Tuomo Rutanen, senior
vice president of Worldwide Marketing and Business Development for Ekahau.
"Based on our initial financial assessments, it's clear that the cost savings
and efficiency improvements from even just a few Clarian Health facilities
will quickly pay for its systemwide RTLS implementation."
For the past nine years, Clarian Health has been named one of the
nation's "Most Wired Hospitals," according to the results of the Most Wired
Survey and Benchmarking Study released by Hospital & Health Networks
magazine. Hospitals earn this prestigious designation through the inventive
use of wireless and Internet technologies to advance quality care, public
health and safety, customer service and business processes.
