deCarta adds turn-by-turn capabilities to its industry-leading LBS platform
SAN FRANCISCO, October 5, 2010 - deCarta, Inc., a leading provider of location services, today announced
the launch of deCarta Navigation(TM), a white-label navigation application
allowing Mobile Network Operators (MNOs), mobile handset OEMs and Enterprise
customers to add turn-by-turn route guidance to their location service
offerings. deCarta Navigation is built on deCarta's Drill Down Server (DDS)
location platform and is tightly integrated to other deCarta offerings such
as MapSearch(TM) local search, maps and third party APIs. It is offered as a
white-label solution and can be branded by the service provider to maintain a
consistent look and feel with other applications.
Turn-by-turn navigation continues to be one of the most sought-after
location services demanded by consumers in the mobile market. deCarta
Navigation can be offered as a subscription-based service, bundled with
broader service offerings or provided as a free service to drive advertising
opportunities. deCarta's white-label approach allows the service provider,
whether a MNO, a handset OEM or an enterprise service provider to determine
and control the business model.
deCarta Navigation is an "off-board" solution, with the map data stored
in the cloud, allowing frequent map updates and easy integration with dynamic
content. It is available on Blackberry, Android and many Java ME platforms
covering a wide range of mobile devices. And because deCarta Navigation is
built on this same platform, it can be tightly linked to other location based
services. deCarta's MapSearch is used as the search engine making it easy to
navigate to a local search result in a seamless user experience. deCarta
Navigation also includes integration API's that allow third party developers
to incorporate navigation as a core feature of any application.
deCarta's DDS platform has served as the location and routing engine
underneath many of the world's leading off-board navigation services from
companies such as Networks in Motion (TCS), TeleNav, GM's OnStar, Ford Sync
and Appello Wisepilot. deCarta Navigation is built on this heritage of
real-world performance to offer proven routing and guidance.
"Because navigation is highly valued by mobile consumers, it has become a
battleground in the competition for customer loyalty and service revenue,"
said Chris Jones, Vice President and Principal Analyst of Canalys. "deCarta's
new offering helps MNOs and handset OEMs add navigation to all their other
applications, which will mean broader usage of this valuable service across
their user base."
"Navigation is moving from a standalone application to an integral part
of the LBS platform. Users expect to have it as part of a wider set of LBS
services," said J. Kim Fennell, President and CEO of deCarta. "Whether it be
an extension to an enterprise fleet management service, or a logical next
step for a consumer mobile local search application, deCarta is dedicated to
making that an easy addition for our customers."
deCarta Navigation will be on display at the CTIA conference in San
Francisco, October 6-8. For more information, see www.decarta.com or
visit the company at Booth #701 at CTIA.
