DUBAI, UAE - International Quality and Productivity Center (IQPC), the global provider of tailored, industry-driven conferences, announced today the dates for Process Safety in Oil, Gas & Petrochemicals 2009. The two-day conference, with five interactive workshops, will take place in Abu Dhabi from 15 - 18 November 2009 at the Hilton Abu Dhabi Hotel.

Process safety experts will gather to discuss their achievements in optimizing Process Safety to prevent spills, plant shutdown, loss of income and production. The very latest industry challenges will be addressed and attendees can immerse themselves in topical discussions through interactive panel sessions. The summit is endorsed by SAS-AIChE and supported by CCPS. The event is sponsored by gold sponsor ABS Consulting and associate sponsors ABB and AcuTech Consulting Group. The world-class speaker panel includes senior representatives from: Qatar Shell, Dubai Natural Gas Company, GASCO, BAPCO, Shell EPM, ABS Consulting, ENOC, PDO, ABB Engineering and many more…

The conference is chaired by Colin Dyer, Asset Integrity & Process Safety Manager at Shell EPM. Colin reflected, “We have a duty of care to our staff, their families, the community around us and the environment, which are compelling reasons to prevent major incidents.” The conference is co-chaired by Steve Arendt, Vice President Process Industries at ABS Consulting.

Abdulmohsen Almajnouni, Chairman of endorsing organization SAS-AIChE reflected, “The importance of Process Safety in oil, gas, refining and petrochemical plants is no secret to anyone. Hundreds of thousands of people work in these industries, as it is a vital component of the national economy. For this reason, a worker’s safety and health becomes even more important. We have to create a safety culture in light of the major disasters that have occurred in the past which caused large scale fatality and damages. Such culture creation can be attained by close interaction, being open and candid and taking full advantage of this conference.”

Scott Berger, Director of supporting organization Center for Chemical Process Safety (CCPS) said, “A rigorous process safety management system is essential for the short-term and long-term success of any oil, gas, and petrochemical company. Engineers and managers at all levels should take time to improve their knowledge of process safety and to learn the lessons from past accidents.” A senior representative from CCPS will be presenting at the conference on “Discussing Human Reliability to establish a Process Safety Culture” and will facilitate a workshop on Wednesday 18th November on “Discussing critical issues in Process Safety: A CCPS-Middle East model steering committee meeting”.

Dietrich Roeben, Head of Maintenance at Qatar Shell will present on, “Managing Asset Integrity and Reliability throughout the asset life-cycle to ensure Process Safety”. He reflected on the importance of Process Safety: “In recent years the focus of oil & gas operators has shifted to proactive management of asset integrity. Reasons for this interest in Asset Integrity Management are much more complex facilities, maturing facilities, tighter statutory regulations and changing stakeholder expectations. Process safety is the result of prudent safety systems design and good maintenance / reliability management. Often, it correlates with uptime, production and plant profitability. Therefore managing process safety is one of the major challenges for oil & gas projects and operating companies in the current environment.”

Hany Abdel Aziz, HSE Expert General Manager at Rashid Petroleum company is presenting on, “Utilizing Process Hazard Review as a tool to develop an effective Emergency Management & Response Plan” on Tuesday 17th November. He said:

“The lessons learned from the major accidents in Oil & Gas, Petrochemical and Chemical companies demonstrate that process hazards have devastating consequences on people, environment and assets. Process hazards should be identified, analyzed and controlled. Many approaches are being used but all are to achieve the goal of Process Safety establishment”.

Process Safety in Oil, Gas & Petrochemicals 2009 will act as a forum for some of the most topical issues facing the industry right now, by providing practical case studies and exclusive presentations from leading National Oil Companies, International Oil Companies and Consultancies.
